The Department of Criminology & Criminal Justice, in collaboration with the Institute for Social Science Research at The University of Alabama, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2027.
This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment with a competitive startup package. The substantive area of research is open, and we welcome applications from scholars working across the breadth of criminology, criminal justice, and related social-behavioral fields. We are especially interested in candidates whose scholarship is grounded in rigorous quantitative methods and who are interested in building an active, externally funded research program.
The successful candidate will hold a joint appointment in the Department of Criminology & Criminal Justice and The University of Alabama’s Institute for Social Science Research (ISSR), emphasizing interdisciplinary research and collaboration. This role will provide a substantially reduced teaching load, thereby providing more time for research activities. The joint appointment is designed for a research-intensive scholar who will maintain a clear disciplinary home in Criminology & Criminal Justice while benefiting from ISSR’s research infrastructure, interdisciplinary collaborations, and support for externally funded team science.
The selected candidate must have earned a Ph.D. in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or a related social-behavioral field by the position’s start date. Evidence of methodological strength, research productivity, promise for extramural funding, and interest in graduate training and collaborative research will be especially valued.
