Position Summary

This position is responsible for providing leadership and vision to advance the Neuromodulation Systems platform in the R&D organization (System engineering, UI/UX, clinical engineering and research scientists) which will fuel the next generation of the current and future Neuromodulation products including Epilepsy, DTD and OSA. In conjunction with other senior leaders, develops strategic plans for new technologies and products. Manages and supports development teams and coordinates with marketing, product development, clinical and KOL’s to provide products that meet customer’s needs. This position reports to the VP of NM R&D and will manage approximately 3-6 direct reports.

Primary Activities

  • Lead a team of system engineers, UI/UX, clinical engineers and research scientists for the neuromodulation platform.

  • Drive all technical aspects of the product development including requirements definition, architecture, UI/UX design, implementation and integration. Oversee detailed designs, implementation, and test plan reviews to ensure high quality results.

  • Collaborate closely with customers, marketing, and cross functional teams to ensure alignment and expectations.

  • Attract, coach, grow, and retain talent providing career growth opportunities, and creating an inclusive and diverse culture.

  • Oversee System development processes and activities.  Provide technical leadership to research and development programs.

  • Communicate project plans and strategies, resource needs, progress, and status effectively across organizational boundaries.

  • Direct and advise project teams including engineers, scientists, and technicians for assigned projects.

  • Work closely with the other management leaders to develop effective technology and product development strategies.

  • Support departmental activities to develop inventions and intellectual property as well as scientific publications.

  • Support company goals and objectives, policies and procedures, Quality System Regulations, FDA regulations and other regulatory requirements.

  • Perform other duties as required by management.

Additional Activities

  • Support product development activities:  System engineering, UI/UX, clinical engineering and research scientist.

  • Hire, train, motivate, and develop departmental staff.

  • Assist in mentoring junior staff towards technical and professional growth.

  • Research and maintain current knowledge of competitive technologies and products.

  • Maintain knowledge of technologies within functional area and in the competitive landscape (e.g. relevant literature, attending conferences/meetings); identify new applications for existing technologies.

  • Provide technical excellence on engineering and business process, key issues, and projects and portfolio management.

  • Manage day-to-day department activities, resources and budgets.

Location & Travel Requirements

  • This position is located onsite in Houston, Texas office.

  • This position may have some business travel.

Pay Transparency

  • A reasonable estimate of the annual base salary for this position is $220,000 - $240,000, plus discretionary annual bonus. Pay ranges may vary by location.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS degree in engineering discipline, with 15 or more years of technical experience in the medical device industry.

  • 8+ years of management experience.

  • Experience with product development for implantable devices and capital equipment.

  • Experience with product lifecycle management.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS degree, engineering discipline preferred.

  • 10+ years’ experience in the implantable device industry.
