Position Summary:
TESAT Gov (an Airbus U.S. subsidiary) is looking for a driven multidisciplinary Principal Systems Engineer (Opto-Mechanical) that will contribute towards the development and integration of optical communication systems for space applications. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in opto-mechanical principles to ensure systems meet stringent performance requirements to support the development and integration of advanced free space optical communication systems for satellite applications. This role involves overseeing system design, ensuring compliance with technical requirements, and coordination with cross-functional teams to deliver cutting edge solutions tailored to U.S. Government and next-generation satellite system architectures.
Position Responsibilities
The Principal Systems Engineer will conduct technical assignments and support the completion of projects while working closely with programmatic leadership, technical experts, engineering peers, and the customer. Expect to be involved in the full lifecycle of development, from requirements definition through production, integration and operations, deriving technical approaches to challenging problems with support, and communicating technically complex information in a succinct and concise manner.
Systems Engineering: 75%
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, internally and externally, to accomplish technical programmatic and internal objectives for optical communication payloads for space-based applications.
- Oversee the development of technical documentation, including design specifications, interface control documents, and test plans to successfully delivery space qualified hardware for space vehicle programs.
- Develop and manage system requirements, ensuring alignment with customer specification and mission objectives.
- Support program management in planning, scheduling, and risk assessment activities.
- Engage with customers and stakeholders to present technical solutions and gather feedback.
Additional Responsibilities: 25%
- Assist with the creation of internal guidelines, processes, and procedures in support of programmatic and project execution activities.
- Support TESAT Gov's OCT development product roadmap by conducting trade studies and analytical efforts to develop new solutions and optimize cost savings through design modifications.
Qualified Experience / Skills / Training:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Physics or other STEM related scientific fields.
- Preferred: Masters or PhD degree in Aerospace, Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Physics or other STEM related scientific fields.
Experience:
- 15 years (12 years with a master's degree) of progressive experience in aerospace, systems, electrical, mechanical, or physics
- Proven track record directly related to the development of opto-mechanical systems or free-space optics.
- Proven design and development track-record with spacecraft hardware, starting from conceptual designs and tradeoffs thru detailed design, development, manufacture, integration, test, deployment, and operations.
- Knowledge of opto-mechanical concepts, including structural stability, thermal effects, and vibration dynamics.
- Familiarity with optical communication and their elemental functions.
- Familiarity with radiation sensitive electronics.
