Description

Emory University Hospital would like to invite you to join our Complex Medicine Unit.

  • We offer an exciting opportunity to work with a high acuity and diverse patient population that is comprised of, but not limited to, acute/chronic renal failure, endocrine dysfunction, pulmonary disease, infectious disease, gastrointestinal and liver disease, dermatology disorders, congestive heart failure, multi-system failure, malnutrition, geriatric patient disorders, and conditions requiring radioactive treatments.
  • A unique, yet limited aspect of our unit is our contractual agreement with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to support the care of our patients enrolled in clinical trials.

Job Description 

 

  • Oversees assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient education programs including programs presented by department and overall patient education activities. Serves as role a model for teaching excellence.
  • Understands and applies aspects of cultural diversity appropriate to patient populations served. Looks for ways to individualize the education, training & preparedness of the patient & family or other individuals who are significant in the care of the patient.
  • Sets goals that enhance the patients' ability to provide self-care. Models ethical and professional communication in all areas of communication and encourages other staff to do the same. Promotes an environment that builds trust and the success of staff members. Contributes to the achievement of departmental / health system goals sharing experience, knowledge and support.
  • Supports system as well as ESJH standards. Collaborates with educational specialists, Unit Directors/Unit Nurse Educators and CNS's in their patient education liaison roles to assure the patient's needs are met. Participates on appropriate committees, councils and task forces to provide guidance and expertise for patient educational issues. Participates actively in change process by adopting new methods or incorporating new equipment or devices.
  • Responsible for supporting quality matrix/patient safety initiatives and insuring staff has the knowledge and resources to support this work. Demonstrates clinical support to all staff and providers by consistently responding to requests for services. Assuring programs are equitably and appropriately distributed among education specialists, utilizing their skills and knowledge. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • All nurses employed in roles requiring an unencumbered nursing license must have a valid, active license or temporary permit approved by the Georgia Licensing Board.
  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's preferred. Previous leadership experience preferred.
  • Two years clinical nursing experience in a hospital setting. Competent in instruction of adult learners, experienced with utilizing research, editing, and writing policies and procedures.
  • Instructor experience preferred.
