At our site in Alexandria, Minnesota, we design, manufacture, test and provide service support of LGC, Biosearch Technologies laboratory instrumentation and consumables. Products produced and distributed from this location enable scientists to make the world a safer place and enables customers in areas such as developing and identifying new plant hybrids, testing and tracking of food products for food safety, and research to support human diagnostic testing. The Alexandria site represents a centre of excellence for Biosearch Technologies in the areas of Engineering, Manufacturing, and Field Service by supplying and supporting customers and team members around the world. Our services are accredited to the ISO 9001 quality standard.
Job Description
This role is responsible for leading a cross-functional team focused on Nucleic Acid Chemistry Consumables Manufacturing to meet the manufacturing needs of the Alexandria site. Products manufactured by this teams will be supplied to both internal and external customers and includes three workstreams of consumables production. This position works directly with the Site Director to ensure that the operations of the team align with all company procedures and external regulatory requirements. This position directly supervises and supports the assigned staff, leading by example, and ensures that all tasks are prioritized and completed successfully and with highest quality. The position interfaces with many branches of the company (both inside and outside of the Alexandria site), along with external customers. This position is also responsible for monitoring and reporting upward the On Time in Full (OTIF), Turn Around Time (TAT), Cost of Good Sold (COGS), and Right First Time (RFT) metrics for each workstream, and for driving improvements in process and methods to effect positive changes to those metrics. This position is responsible for planning of workspace, equipment and personnel needs, interfacing with associated groups, and management of a team focused on manufacturing industry-leading products.
In the role of a people manager at LGC this position is responsible for overseeing a team of employees and is responsible for specific deliverables for the business. The individual in this role executes decisions and judgement based on the outputs or needs of each workstream. This position drives business results by working closely with team members; communicating job expectations, planning, monitoring and appraising individual performance; coaching and taking corrective actions when situations dictate. This position maintains staff by recruiting, hiring, familiarizing, training, and cross-training team members, fostering personal growth opportunities and talent managing team and individual performance.
In the role of a member of the Alexandria site Operations Leadership Team, this role is responsible for creating an environment of Operational Excellence and Safety within each workstream and owning production, quality and improvement results. The position will take responsibility for strategically positioning each workstream to meet current and future customer demands and to responding to opportunities for rapid growth in both ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 manufacturing environments.

Essential Functions:
- Participate in or manage the process of the hiring, training and cross-training of staff as needed to complete assigned work and build sufficient bench strength to support production surges.
- Ensure staff is appropriately trained on all required procedures prior to performing and verify training as needed.
- Manage the priorities of each team, ensuring that the changing needs of the company and customers are reflected in those priorities at all times.
- Ensure manufacturing priorities are completed by:
- Managing shop orders and due dates
- Properly scheduling employees
- Appropriately scheduling maintenance activities
- Verifying equipment is functioning and properly maintained.
