Mobile Equipment Technician

FLSA Status: Hourly

OVERVIEW:

As a Mobile Equipment Maintenance Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the operational readiness and safety of all mobile equipment within our facility. Reporting directly to the Maintenance Supervisor, you will be responsible for performing scheduled preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairing a wide variety of mobile equipment, including cranes, forklifts, and maintenance service carts. Your duties will encompass a range of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical tasks, requiring proficiency in diagnostics, repair, and maintenance procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Preventative Maintenance and Servicing:

  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on all mobile equipment, ensuring compliance with manufacturer's specifications and safety standards.
  • Service equipment with appropriate lubricants, fuel, and water, maintaining optimal performance and longevity.

Troubleshooting and Repair:

  • Troubleshoot and repair a wide variety of mobile equipment, diagnosing faults or malfunctions to determine the scope of work required.
  • Examine parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers, gauges, and other inspection equipment.
  • Align or adjust clearances of mechanical components and parts to ensure proper operation.

Technical Expertise:

  • Read and understand repair/operating manuals, schematics, and technical drawings to facilitate repairs.
  • Dismantle and reassemble equipment using hoists and hand tools, repairing and replacing damaged or worn parts as needed.
  • Test equipment after repair to ensure proper and safe performance, adhering to manufacturer's specifications.

Additional Skills:

  • The ability to weld and fabricate for equipment repair is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in computer skills to interface with web-based CMMS for maintenance tracking.
  • Working knowledge of hand tools and troubleshooting devices, including multimeters.

Work Environment:

  • Must be willing to work in inclement weather conditions and be physically capable of performing tasks in cramped or awkward positions.
  • Some overtime may be required, with the potential for call-in for emergency breakdowns.
  • Must be able to work all shifts, with the primary shift being Monday to Friday, dayshift.

Facilities Support:

  • Assist with facilities work as assigned by the plant facilities engineer, contributing to the overall maintenance and upkeep of the facility.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Five to ten years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • High School Diploma or GED. Technical or trade school education is advantageous.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Frequently: Standing, walking, sitting, bending, squatting, stooping, lifting, pushing, and pulling <75 lbs.
  • Occasionally: Overhead work, climbing ladders or stairs, driving forklifts, operating cranes.
