Job Summary:

Applies the nursing process to plan and implement the care of patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning. Effectively communicates pertinent patient/family information to the health care team. Collaborates in establishing patient goals and evaluates progress to ensure effective outcomes. Furthers professional growth by engaging in learning activities according to the Board of Nursing standards.

SHIFT: The person in this role will work three 10 hour shifts from 6:30am-5:00p for a total of 30 hours per week. There is a call requirement of every 4th weekend for 4 hours on both Sat/Sun.

Nuclear medicine nurse responsibilities include:

• Cardiac stress perfusion studies on mostly adults but also on children 

• Stress testing in the PET departmentMost of the nuclear stress testing is done on inpatients. We generally use Regadenoson, Adenosine, Dobutamine or treadmills to accomplish this.

• We do Viability studies in PET to test for hibernating myocardium using high dose insulin gtts combined with glucose and potassium.  

• We do brain mappings/ stress with Diamox or adenosine.

• Nurses perform sarcoid studies in PET using heparin.

• We monitor mapping patients after procedures in Interventional Radiology.

• Coronary CTAs are done regularly utilizing metoprolol IV, diltiazem IV and nitroglycerin.  

• Help thyroid cancer patients with prepping them for Iodine therapies and testing.

• We teach the nuclear medicine students the patient care curriculum in the allied health program.  The main topics are direct patient care, vital signs, and EKG rhythm interpretation.

WHAT YOU"LL NEED

- Graduate of an approved discipline program

- 1 year RN experience

- Active RN license

The hiring team for this position has noted the ideal candidate will have at minimum one year of ICU or ED experience.

• Nursing Patient Education (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency in providing patient education in practical applications of moderate difficulty.
• Nursing Patient Assessment & Evaluation (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate the ability to assess and evaluate patients in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Conducts primary care patient interviews and physical examinations. Demonstrates sufficient acumen to recognize problems, ask questions and to contact the patient's primary care provider and other members of the healthcare team. Has experience in gathering pertinent clinical data that aid in referral, treatment, or other primary care pathways.
