Staff Data Engineer

EXPECTATIONS

• Direct as an Architect
  • Ask ALL the whys, relentlessly, until you know the business & analytics needs inside-out and know you’re designing the right solution to the problems and not the other way around.
  • Proactively, continuously, think forward, and evolve our ecosystem. Having a roadmap for cutting-edge capabilities and design patterns that move our entire data organization up in maturity and value proposition.
  • Design POCs, help pick our technology partners and lead integrations.
• Serve as a Tech Lead
  • Be a consultant to management about prioritization of tasks, sequence of execution, and strategic planning.
  • Use your experience with tools and methodologies to guide the team’s execution approaches/behaviors. Provide best practices docs and demos, and set clear standards.
  • Provide solution design support, distill the 80 from the 20. Provide guidance to the team on pragmatic approaches.
  • Serve as a link between Data Engineering and Software Engineering Tech Leads, getting and providing context and finding efficiencies.
• Excel as Senior Engineer
  • Get your hands on the keyboard daily, tackling the crunchiest problems yourself.
  • Unblock roadblocks and technical challenges. Solve for ambiguity from your experience.
  • Set high standards of delivery quality and speed.
  • Inspire, teach, and guide your fellow team members. Be there for a code review, and take the time to explain your thought process.

Requirements

EXPERIENCE

• Architecture
  • You see the bigger picture of the ecosystem you’re building, experienced in Data Catalogs, Data Quality, Monitoring/Observability tools, etc. You know it’s not only about ETL code.
  • You’ve participated in shaping the architecture of a data analytics platform before. You’ve made your mistakes and learned from them. You have a fit-for-purpose mindset and know that keeping it simple is the true mark of experience and excellence.
  • You have experience in different data design patterns, you know the 5 V’s of data matter much to what you’re solutioning for. Know how to design for the different consumer types of your platform.
  • You’ve run POCs, planned large migrations of data and code, and participated in planning a roadmap multiple times before.
• Engineering Hands-On
  • You have hands-on experience in writing ETLs through code or tooling, you know SQL like the back of your hand.
  • You can advocate passionately for your tried-and-true best practices of CI/CD in data engineering.
  • You’ve wrangled Big Data, Real-time Data, and Complex data problems into solutions in your past
  • You have experience in Data Modeling. You understand its potential value.
  • You have a large toolbox you’ve been assembling for years, from Python to SME on different SaaS in the market. And you know when to use the right tool for the job and not the other way around.
• Tech Leadership
  • You’ve served as a tech lead in the past, and you’ve learned the secret sauce to making an impact on the team through personal touch and strong skills combo.
  • You have a playbook. Knowing which process/documentation/working session helps at every stage of the team’s maturity.
