Overview
Works under the supervision of the Nurse/Office Manager, Director and Physician. Able to work within a team environment with a focus on patient centered care. Communicates effectively and positively with PCI staff, patients, families, caregivers and community resources. Maintains a flexible schedule to be available as a resource to the physician for new treatment patient issues/problems or needs. Works collaboratively with other members of the health care team to coordinate new patient treatments ordered by the physician. Assists in making appropriate referrals for new patients in need of additional services including but not limited to Integrative Oncology, billing, support groups and medically indigent assistance. Provides introductory orientation to the clinic and preliminary education in the disease process and treatment. Functions as a contact point for patients, medical staff and the community regarding PCI Integrative Oncology philosophy and programs.

What you will do

  • Demonstrates ability to assess patient clinical ands psychosocial needs by applying standards of practice as it relates to the specialty or patient population served in oncology services
  • Partners with patients and families to develop, implement and evaluate plan of care, treatments and procedures that contribute to the physiological and psychosocial outcomes of the patient. Assesses and incorporates evidence-based standards of practice. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team in the coordination care. Facilitates safe patient transitions to the next care setting as part of plan of care.
  • Demonstrates understanding of diverse patient care populations and ability to modify education method to ensure patient/family comprehension. Educates by assuming responsibility to individualize and coordinate patient education, and discharge specific education that includes family/caregiver. Evaluates for patient comprehension and documents.
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency to facilitate patient throughput to assure patients receive consistent, competent, and ethical care. Focuses on quality outcomes of patient care when addressing customer’s needs to include current evidence based practice and quality measures.
  • Ability to delegate and prioritize tasks appropriately to facilitate quality patient care and ensure patient care needs are met. Able to recognize and respond to emergency situations. Evaluates own needs for support and uses identified systems to meet need.
  • Accurately completes all required clinical and quality documentation consistently per RHS standards and regulatory requirements.


Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelors Degree, Nursing (Preferred)
  • Associates Degree, Nursing (Required) or
  • Program Graduate, Diploma Nurse Program (Required) and
  • High School Diploma or GED, Required only for Diploma Nurse Graduates (Required)


Experience

  • 1 year Oncology Nursing Experience (Required)


Licenses and Certifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) or licensed in a compact state Upon Hire(Required)
  • CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) Upon Hire(Required)
  • Oncology Certified Nurse - Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (Preferred)
