About The Position
The Pharmacy Technician is to provide technical support related to preparation of investigational medications for clinical research studies and to provide administrative assistance to the Research Pharmacist, Principal Investigator(s) and the research team in the implementation of clinical research study (ies).
This is a part time position that will be working on site at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX. A thorough government background check will be conducted.
Salary Range
$20.00 - $25.00 per hour. Salaries and hourly pay rates are determined based on several factors including external market data, internal equity, and the candidate’s related knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.

Responsibilities
- Reads and interprets instructions for preparation of investigational medication, carefully following the protocol instructions
- Prepares sterile products, according to the protocol, utilizing sterile technique and maintaining infectious control procedures
- Assembles drugs and supplies for delivery or collection by clinical research staff
- Makes necessary calculations and adjustments to provide different concentrations of medication
- Selects the correct unit dose of medication to meet the patient’s need, according to the protocol
- Answers inquiries from study drug sponsor, or its representatives, regarding completion of study-related documents
- Uses automated equipment for preparing specialized intravenous solutions
- Maintains satisfactory conditions of cleanliness throughout the pharmacy work spaces
- Promotes confidentiality of research participants at all times
- Assists Principal Investigator(s) and/or their designee(s) with the following as needed to accomplish research objectives:
- Data entry
- Photocopying, collating and filing research study documentation
- Security and maintenance of research files
- Correspondence
- Preparation of progress reports and manuscripts
- Procurement of supplies and equipment as authorized per research budget guidelines
- Interacts and communicates effectively with Research Pharmacist, Principal Investigator(s), Clinical Research Coordinator, Clinical Trials Research Manager, other site personnel, research participants, The Geneva Foundation and the sponsor organization
Qualifications
- Associates Degree and/or equivalent work experience required
- Pharmacy Technician certification preferred
- Non-profit, research, or healthcare experience desired
- Familiar with pharmacy medical terminology and abbreviations
- Knowledge of apothecary and metric weights and measures
- Retain the ability to convert between metric weight and measure systems
- Knowledge of common chemical and physical drug incompatibilities, adverse drug reactions and interactions
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical nomenclature: generic, trade and chemical name of drugs
- Knowledge of sterile technique and infection control procedures to safely prepare sterile products
- Knowledge of formulas, strengths, and dosage forms of drugs
- Ability to accurately prepare, compound, package, label and dispense oral, topical and intravenous preparations
- Knowledge of laws, policies, procedures, local instructions and JCAHO standards relative to pharmacy services
- Demonstrated competence in oral and written communication
- Computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and E-mail
