Project/Unit Description

The High Assurance Computing unit is responsible for overseeing all classified IT services essential to supporting GTRI’s research mission. This includes developing strategic plans for classified IT environments, implementing and managing these services, and ensuring full compliance with all applicable policies and regulations. These IT services are critical to enabling researchers to meet their sponsor deliverable commitments effectively and securely.

Job Purpose

High Assurance Computing (HAC) Director has the overall responsibility to provide vision and leadership for classified systems and networks, including collateral, special access, and SCI systems. This includes architecture, construction and maintenance of classified networks, systems, communications and computing services. The HAC Director reports directly to the GTRI Information Officer (GTRI-IO), serves on the GTRI IT leadership group, and is responsible for overseeing all aspects of HAC.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy:

  • Develop and assess the mission, vision, strategic, and operational plans of HAC with focus on transformational solutions with agile delivery.
  • Build strategic partnerships with researchers, GTRI Research Security, lab leadership, and IT groups across the organization to deploy services & systems that enable classified research.
  • Lead a team of IT professionals in support of providing computing services for research at the collateral, SAP, and SCI classifications.
  • Oversee the technical architecture of enterprise classified computing & systems, review modern and emerging technologies, evaluate the benefits and risks of incorporation, and incorporate those into HAC that provide greatest value to stakeholders.
  • Lead the group that will establish standards, and best practices and guides the organization in implementing them.
  • Develop and manage HAC’s budget for capital and operating expenses and ensure the effective and appropriate investment of the funding resources.
  • Lead and drive IT process, business, and technology changes by gauging and anticipating the needs of the organization in order to bring efficiencies to GTRI overall and ensure high quality, streamlined services.
  • Create a focused working environment with controlled inflow of projects and minimized task-switching from competing priorities.
  • Collaborate with GTRI-Research Security to establish a comprehensive enterprise information security & governance program that will ensure the protection of classified systems & data.
  • Provide support, encouragement, and ongoing reinforcement of continuous learning and improvement to build strong operations and technical excellence within the team.
