Clinic Nurse (part-time - one day per week)

Overview:
Vitalief is a leading site solutions consulting company focused on improving the value and contribution of clinical trial sites across the drug development lifecycle. We are seeking an enthusiastic, entry level Nurse (RN) with a minimum of 6 months of experience, to work part-time to support our client’s patients in one of their outpatient public health centers in Newark, NJ. The position is mostly clinical but there could be some opportunity to participate in clinical research studies.
Work Schedule: One (1) full day per week; 7.5 hour shift either on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, from 9am to 5pm.
Contract Duration: Initial contract is 6 months; and our client has expressed interest in converting the contractor to their employee.
Hourly Pay Rate: Market competitive - based on experience level.
Responsibilities:
- Working in our client’s tuberculosis outpatient clinic, reporting to a Nurse Manager, in accordance with professional nursing standards, skillfully administers total patient care based on the individual needs of people with tuberculosis and their families.
- Assesses, screens, evaluates, educates, and provides patient care management / outcome management.
- Maintains professional composure and confidence in the care setting.
- Maintains patient safety, comfort, and cleanliness.
- Implements and evaluates patient individualized medical plan of care based on assessment of chronological age, developmental level and desired outcome.
- Provides direct patient care or directs other health team members to ensure proper implementation of medical/nursing plan of care.
- Plans and coordinates patient care within external clinical environments (i.e. home care).
- Teaches patients and significant others about health/illness state and plan of care.
- Knowledgeable in and initiates emergency procedures.
- Communicates to all levels of health care team and management team necessary information and/or unusual occurrences regarding the patient.
- Administers medications/immunizations and parental therapies in accordance with clinic policies.
- Documents all aspects of patient care.
- Is knowledgeable of and initiates emergency procedures.
- Develops and maintains good human relations skills consistent with the principles of the program with employees, patients, medical staff, and visitors in accordance with performance of duties.
Required Skills:
- Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey.
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a BSN preferred.
- This is an entry level position – requiring at least 6 months of RN experience.
- BLS (CPR) is required. Candidates lacking current BLS (CPR) Certification must obtain certification prior to start date of employment.
- Knowledge of prescribing medication and advising medication management.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills - able to translate medical terms into layman’s terms.
- Develops and maintains good human relations skills consistent with the principles of the program with employees, patients, medical staff, and visitors.
- Ability to engage and educate healthcare professionals effectively.
- Very comfortable and confident (but not combative) interacting with the team in the clinic, including peer navigators and nursing clinicians.
- Experience working in similar specialty outpatient centers.
- Some experience working with tuberculosis patients and/or appetite for outpatient infectious disease.
- Certification in the area of Medical Surgical, OB/GYN, Diabetes, Adolescent/Pediatrics, or Operating Room Nursing.
- Spanish, Haitian Creole, or other language
