This Clinic Services Public Health Nurse (PHN) position at Jefferson County Public Health (JCPH) involves clinical and community-setting public health nursing work to promote and protect the health of individuals, families, and populations using knowledge from nursing, social, and public health sciences. This work involves intervention through direct services; health promotion and risk reduction education; referral of clients to community resources; and facilitation of health care access. This position is located with the JCPH Clinic Services division, which provides immunization, youth nicotine cessation, sexual health, and harm reduction services to our community. The Public Health Nurse works as part of a team to deliver evidence-based, high-quality preventive health services in the clinic setting and on outreach.
The ideal candidate has strong emotional intelligence, is passionate about health equity, and has experience in a clinic setting, specifically in a public health role, with a background in immunizations, nicotine cessation, family planning, contraception, STIs, and/or harm reduction. This individual will be motivated to learn while practicing under standing orders, will excel at developing relationships and trust with clients, and will be able to constructively engage with both internal and external partners in the local public health system. Ability to communicate effectively with others is essential. The right candidate for this role will be comfortable seeing patients in a clinic setting, on outreach, and in client homes.
SCHEDULE:
This position typically operates on a 4-day work week, Monday-Thursday with occasional flexed Friday, evening and weekend shifts as needed.
This is an on-site, clinic-based role with travel throughout the county for outreach events.

COMPENSATION:
Hiring Range: $70,000-$82,000 USD Annual
Compensation will be determined based on education, experience, and skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Deliver individualized, culturally competent, and ethical client care to individuals and families. Deliver person-centered care based on positive, respectful relationships utilizing reflective communication skills to a diverse population.
- Conduct care coordination and health management with clients in the areas of sexual health, harm reduction, and immunizations.
- Participate in communicable disease control work.
- Interview clients to obtain personal and routine health information in accordance with established policies, protocols, and guidelines.
- Review immunization records for compliance and counsel clients about vaccine and medication efficacy, reactions, and effectiveness. Prepare, and administer immunizations and medications to clients in accordance with JCPH policies, procedures, and protocols and medical director's standing orders.
- Work within clinical protocols and standing orders to order appropriate STI screening; dispense contraceptive methods; administer injections, STI treatment medications, and immunizations; and make referrals.
- Document client care via electronic health records and paper files accurately, completely, and in a timely manner.
- Support laboratory and pharmacy functions.
- Maintain working knowledge and expertise about immunizations and serve as a subject matter expert on vaccines for the community.
- Administrative duties as assigned related to clinical programming and grant deliverables.
- Respond to health care emergencies as needed. Participate in JCPH emergency preparedness trainings as appropriate. Perform duties as assigned during a natural or bio-terrorism emergency.Ā
