PURPOSE:

Under the general supervision of the Executive Director of the Center for Experiential Learning and Innovation, the Career Advisor serves as a key member of a dynamic team dedicated to empowering diverse learners to thrive in an evolving global workforce. Cal State University Monterey Bay seeks a forward-thinking, student-centered professional who blends traditional career guidance with innovative, future-focused practices. The Career Advisor is responsible for designing, delivering, and enhancing a wide range of career development services—including workshops, networking events, experiential learning opportunities, informational and marketing materials, and individualized advising sessions. This role leverages technology, labor market insights, and personalized coaching to help students explore career pathways, build essential 21st-century skills, and make informed, strategic decisions about their futures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Career and Academic/Career Connections Advising

Provides individualized and small group advising to an assigned caseload of students, offering comprehensive guidance on career exploration, academic pathways, and employment preparation. Utilizes career-related assessment tools to help students identify strengths, interests, and values, using an asset-based, strengths-focused approach to interpret results and connect them to meaningful academic and career decisions. Supports students holistically in setting and achieving personal, academic, and professional goals, including the development of career action plans and preparation for interns
