Shure is looking for a Senior Packaging Engineer who is passionate about sustainability and ready to shape how our products show up in the world. In this role, you’ll drive the creation of innovative, eco‑friendly packaging solutions that protect our legendary microphones, headphones, and audio systems - while reducing environmental impact at every step.
You’ll collaborate across product development, marketing, manufacturing, and global suppliers to bring packaging concepts from idea → prototype → production. Your work will directly influence customer experience, brand perception, and Shure’s long‑term sustainability goals.
This hybrid role is based at our Niles, IL headquarters
Responsibilities
- Own all aspects of packaging engineering including but not limited to - innovation, development, specifications, trials, and go-to-market activities.
- Create fully defined 3D models and associated 2D documentation using CAD software (Siemens NX and ArtiosCAD)
- Work directly with packaging suppliers to develop packaging components and manage materials lead-times.
- Lead efforts to reduce the environmental impact of Shure Packaging. Monitor and report on sustainable packaging performance metrics such as cost, carbon footprint, and waste reduction.
- Develop packaging prototypes and participate in product and packaging testing to ensure that packaging meets performance, safety, and quality standards while meeting sustainability targets.
- Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging sustainable packaging technologies.
- Monitor packaging designs for manufacturability with input from Shure manufacturing locations and Process Engineers.
- Conduct and evaluate the appropriate experiments to solve complex packaging problems.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Packaging Science or a related field.
- 5+ years of relevant work experience in packaging development and design.
- Demonstrated ability of working on critical packaging design assignments with large degree of independence.
- Experience developing packaging for durable goods, electronics and/or consumer products a plus.
- Knowledge of packaging materials and structures, manufacturing processes, and supply chain logistics.
- Possess an eagerness for continued design skills growth, and a passion to apply them to develop packaging for world-class audio products.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated knowledge of regulatory compliance and sustainability requirements for packaging.
- Proficiency in packaging specific software such as ArtiosCAD and Cape Pack Palletizing Software.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software, preferably Siemens NX.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and cross functional team environment (including team members in Mexico and China), soliciting guidance and input from team members when needed to complete assignments.
- Strong leadership skills
- Ability to travel internationally is required.
- Conversational use of Spanish and/or Mandarin is helpful.
- Experience working with packaging suppliers in China and/or Mexico.
