Job Summary:

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) plays a vital role in delivering specialized care and managing the health needs of patients in either inpatient, ambulatory, or a combination of both settings. With advanced training and expertise, the APP focuses on subspecialized care, including chronic illness and disease management, ensuring continuity of care throughout the patient’s healthcare journey, which may span multiple years. This role involves specialization in a specific organ system, where the APP provides expert consultation within their area of expertise as appropriate. The APP is integral to supporting patients across the continuum of care in both inpatient and outpatient specialty settings, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

  • Monday-Friday, clinic hours (4 days in clinic, 1 administrative day)

  • No call/holidays/weekends

Department Summary:

As one of the busiest hospitals in the country for adult and pediatric urologic surgical procedures, the Department of Urology at Vanderbilt provides a comprehensive approach to patient care. We blend our innovative diagnostic, treatment, and research capabilities to deliver the best care possible while working to advance surgical approaches, including:

  • Robotics 

  • Image-guided surgery  

  • Minimally invasive approaches 

At the Vanderbilt Urology Clinic we treat a wide range of conditions, including:

  • Urologic cancers, such as: 

  • Prostate cancer 

  • Bladder cancer 

  • Kidney cancer 

  • Incontinence and other bladder-control problems 

  • Kidney stones 

  • Sexual health conditions, such as: 

  • Erectile dysfunction 

Our team invests in the most advanced technologies – such as a 3D MRI prostate biopsy system – that enables the most precise biopsies and facilitates personalized treatment plans. 
 
The large volume of procedures we perform each year ensures our patients receive the best care. Our teams are highly experienced. Milestones include:

  • Performing more than 10,000 robotic-assisted urologic surgeries such as radical prostatectomies 

  • Completing more than 2,200 pediatric urologic surgeries a year at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, including: 

  • Innovative robotic surgeries  

  • Complex urologic reconstructions 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Obtains and documents a health history; performs and documents complete, system-focused, or symptom-specific physical examination, assessment and plan of care.
  • In collaboration, provides healthcare services for primary, acute and complex care of patients and manages patients’ overall care, identifying expected outcomes for diagnoses.
  • Orders, performs, interprets and collects data using appropriate assessment techniques, relevant supporting diagnostic information and diagnostic procedures where indicated.
  • Forms differential diagnoses and treats acute and chronic conditions.
  • Prescribes therapeutic interventions for both pharmacologic, non-pharmacologic and surgical, needed to achieve expected outcomes.
  • Utilizes evidence-based, approved practice protocols in planning and implementing care.
  • Initiates appropriate referrals and consultations
  • Provides specialty specific consultation services upon request and within a specialty scope of practice.
