We are currently seeking experienced candidates for the position of Director, California Academic Partnership Program (CAPP). The CSU Chancellor's Office, located on the waterfront adjacent to the Aquarium of the Pacific in downtown Long Beach, is the headquarters for the nation's largest and most diverse system of higher education. The CSU Chancellor's Office offers a premium benefit package that includes outstanding vacation, health, and dental plans; a fee waiver education program; membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (PERS); and 15 paid holidays a year.

Salary

The anticipated salary hiring range is up to $156,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Position Information

The California State University, Office of the Chancellor, is seeking a Director, CAPP to serve the objectives of the California Academic Partnership Program (CAPP) which includes developing cooperative intersegmental efforts to improve the academic quality of public secondary schools and the academic preparation of all students for success in college. CAPP focuses its efforts on high need areas including high schools and middle schools in low-income areas, geographically isolated schools, and student groups who are underrepresented in college. CAPP is administered by the CSU Office of the Chancellor, in cooperation with the University of California, the California Community Colleges, and the California Superintendent of Public Instruction. These cooperating organizations are represented on a statutorily required Advisory Committee.

This position is approved for telecommuting (two days telecommuting, three days in office (in-person)) with onsite work at the main headquarters located in Long Beach, California.

Responsibilities

Under the general direction of the Assistant Vice Chancellor, Educator and Leadership Programs, the Director, CAPP will perform duties as outlined below:

1. Provide leadership to CAPP's intersegmental Advisory Committee (appointed by the heads of the California's educational segments)

-Steward the work of the Advisory Committee and keep them informed and participating in CAPP efforts and initiatives.

-Provide advice, research support, and staff the Advisory Committee, including its task forces that may be created to address specific needs on an ad-hoc basis.

-Recommend priorities for grant programs.

-Evaluate the impact of funded projects.

-Terminate funding for unsuccessful and completed projects.

-Ensure CAPP operates in compliance with Bagley-Keene Open Meeting and Brown Act.

2. Develop grant opportunities consistent with CAPP statutory provisions that are aligned with State education policy, that are intersegmental in nature and have impact across education segments, that leverage and build on former and current CAPP projects for maximum impact.

3. Oversee the design and implementation of program evaluations to identify successful strategies and programs and provide valuable information about the impact of programs and policies. Provide oversight to award and manage evaluation contracts.

4. Oversee program and fiscal management of grant programs and the grants (and associated contracts) allocated under such programs, including convening project staff for workshops to assess progress, share learning, and plan activities.

-Provide fiscal oversight of grant activity.

5. Provide direction to staff and part-time consultants including CAPP liaisons and facilitators that directly support grantees in meeting their project objectives.

-Provide leadership and planning strategic priorities for CAPP.

-Recruit and support CAPP project facilitators.

-Supervise CAPP staff and part-time consultants.

6. Disseminate research findings from CAPP projects to policy makers, educators, and community groups to promote student achievement in public high schools. Develop and implement communications strategy and materials to better inform educators, collaborative partners and policymakers of CAPP' s work.

-Expand efforts to disseminate findings and learnings from CAPP projects through webinars, conference presentations, policy briefs, the CAPP website, and other means.

7. In addition to the above, the Director will carry out other assignments at the request of Academic and Student Affairs and the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Educator and Leadership Programs.
