The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

The person hired for this position will support and lead plant efforts to drive a Customer First culture by striving to eliminate Customer complaints and Quality escapes while reducing the overall Cost of Poor Quality for the site.

As a Quality Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • SAP Plant Quality Lead – working with BT resources to incorporate appropriate Quality processes into SAP.
  • Leading ISO Auditor for the plant (9001:2015) – Coordinate internal/external quality system and process audits. Driver/owner of CAPA, CMP, QMR,
  • Lean Problem-Solving Coach - Problem Solving and Mistake Proofing, especially Customer Complaints and intracompany Supplier Corrective Action Requests
  • Supporting and mentoring team of Quality Coordinators and Testers.
  • Leveraging Corporate & Division resources to pull new technologies to the plant and maintain existing product testing equipment.
  • Spending time on the production floor working with operators to drive a Quality Culture.
  • Driving quality improvement projects through continuous improvement methods and tools, such as Lean Six Sigma, Product and Process Understanding (PPU), Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams that include manufacturing, technical service, laboratory, and quality.
  • Collaborate with technical resources on RM, SF, FG test methods and data analysis
  • Process owner for quality area, test and lab equipment, and process documentation
  • Other duties as assigned

Your Skills and Expertise 

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution (completed and verified prior to start).

OR

  • High School diploma/GED or higher and a minimum of five (5) years of quality or engineering experience in a private, public, government or military environment.

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline from an accredited institution
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer
  • Manufacturing experience
  • Experience with Lean & Six Sigma methodology and project leadership
  • Statistical expertise
  • Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • SAP experience
  • Material characterization and supplier management experience

Work location:

  • On-site Alexandria, MN

Travel: May include up to 10% domestic
