Senior Research and Development (R&D) Formulator

Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Senior R&D Formulator to join our dynamic and innovative beverage company. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in formulating, analyzing and commercializing beverage products, with a focus on developing new formulations and improving existing ones. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, creative problem-solving, and a deep understanding of consumer preferences and industry trends.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Formulation Development:

• Design, develop, and optimize beverage formulations using bench top techniques.
• Create prototypes and conduct sensory evaluations to assess taste, aroma, and overall product quality.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, from marketing and operations, to align formulations with market trends and consumer preferences and facilitate smooth commercialization transitions.

Analytical Testing and Evaluation:

• Facilitate detailed analytical testing of formulations to ensure compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements.
• Utilize various analytical instruments and techniques (brix, lab reports, sensory evaluation) to analyze ingredients and finished products and products in development. 
• Interpret and report data, making recommendations for product improvements based on findings.

Innovation and Research:

• Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and new ingredients to drive innovation within the product development process.
• Conduct research on new formulation techniques and ingredient functionalities to enhance product performance and consumer appeal.

Documentation and Compliance:

• Maintain accurate and detailed records of formulations, testing results, and development processes.
• Ensure that all formulations comply with food safety regulations and industry standards.
• Prepare and review technical documents, including specifications, reports, and regulatory submissions.

Project Management:

• Lead and manage multiple formulation projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to project milestones.
• Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to source ingredients and materials needed for formulation and testing.
• Aid in sourcing and managing new ingredients 

1. Team Collaboration:
   • Mentor and provide guidance to junior formulators and analysts within the R&D team.
   • Foster a collaborative environment, sharing knowledge and best practices to enhance team performance and product development capabilities.
   • Meet weekly with Operations teams for current and upcoming project planning and communication.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in beverage formulation and analysis, with a proven track record of successful product development.
• Strong expertise in bench top formulation techniques and analytical testing methods.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to think creatively.
• Strong project management skills, with experience leading cross-functional teams.
• Knowledge of food safety regulations and quality standards.
• Comfortable moving quickly, changing plans and innovating under tight timelines
