Today, HPS is deeply engaged in product solutions for OSP Communication utility purposes, and has been actively growing that segment of the business. HPS roots have historically been in high voltage transmission, distribution, substation, underground products used by electric utilities. HPS products are also used in the civil construction, transportation, gas and water industries.

A Day In The Life

  • Work with the Senior Engineering Manager to prioritize and generate new product concepts, with the primary focus on electrical and electromechanical design. Demonstrate strong organizational skills to drive projects from concept to plan.  Use “best design practices” in new product development, to meet quality and sales objectives. 
  • As a working leader, guide the rest of the electrical engineering team and coordinate resources to maintain the project goals.  Interface with other engineering disciplines on the team and act as a technical resource to other department engineers. 
  • Develop electrical components, equipment, schematics and systems to ensure they comply with project requirements.  Strong emphasis to troubleshoot, update, modify and provide final approval of electrical design. 
  • Research and implementation of safety and performance requirements as required by FCC, CE, FDA and other government or regional agencies.  This includes product compliance testing, support and reporting. 
  • Recommend product and process changes, review engineering associate’s technical work when asked. 
     

What will help you thrive in this role?

  • Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering. 
  • 5-7 years’ experience in Electrical Engineering. 
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment and able to support production while still maintaining new product roadmap.  
  • Strong collaborator and mentor with excellent written and oral communication skills. 
  • Have a strong technical background in electrical systems and demonstrate a working knowledge of electromechanical design.  
  • Optics and laser related design experience is preferred. 
  • Is fully adept in electrical assembly design, schematic entry, PCB layout and working knowledge of software and firmware development.  
  • Knowledge/familiarity with mechanical design software such as Solidworks a plus. 
  • Flexibility to travel to customer facilities and other locations as required. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  Guidance and leadership role for the electrical engineering team as needed to drive projects.
