Principal Risk Specialist - Incentive Risk Team

About the team:

Capital One’s Incentive Risk team is responsible for ensuring that no incentive structures and/or compensation policies affect the safety and soundness of Capital One. We do this by: providing guidance and oversight for incentive plan designs to ensure that they do not promote imprudent risk taking performing backtests for incentive plans after the payouts have been made to ensure that the associates did not manipulate the plan and/or take any imprudent risks

About the role:

As a Principal Risk Specialist on the Incentive Risk team, you will be part of a talented team responsible for ensuring that our incentive plans are not driving the wrong behaviors in our associates. 


Risk Specialists with Capital One:

  • Are highly motivated risk management professionals with excellent organizational and communication skills and have a high level of exposure across lines of business 

  • Create and implement innovative solutions to identify and mitigate potential risks to the company

  • Are subject matter experts in designated risk methodologies and corporate risk practices and utilizes that knowledge to guide business customers through expected assessments and appropriate risk management practices

  • Work with analysts and business partners to identify, assess and report risks

  • Make recommendations and provides guidance to ensure the business understands and utilizes all tools available to the

  • Communicate and report results of assessments

  • Create presentations and puts data together into a meaningful format

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • Identify, assess, and report on incentive risk; communicate and report analytical results

  • Partner with the business leads and other risk management professionals to drive adherence to, and longer term sustainability with our regulatory mandates and requirements

  • Leverage monitoring results, data and engagements to inform enhancements, remediation, training and guidance opportunities

  • Support and help facilitate training and related services to ensure adherence across the enterprise with risk management and incentive compensation standards & procedures

  • Apply risk methodologies and corporate risk practices, leverage industry benchmark and best practices to inform guidance to business and risk management stakeholders

  • Coordinate, collaborate, negotiate effectively with other risk programs and stakeholders  

  • Project Management/Relationship Management; ensure timelines are met and projects move forward; drive investigations and problem solve for projects

Basic Qualifications:

  • HS Diploma, GED or equivalent certification 

  • At least 2 years of experience in risk management 

  • At least 1 year of experience in project management or business process management

  • At least 1 year of analytical experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • 4+  years of risk management experience

  • 2+ years of experience in project management or business process management

  • Experience working with spreadsheets and databases 

  • Risk Management or Project Management (PMP) certification
