Senior Scientist, Oncology INT Algorithms

The Role:

Moderna is seeking a Senior Scientist to join a highly collaborative and multi-disciplinary team dedicated to the development of individualized neoantigen cancer therapies. In this position, you will contribute to improved T cell epitope prediction and neoantigen selection algorithms and drive pipeline enhancements. You will work at the forefront of personalized medicine, collaborating with a team of computational biologists, immunologists, translational scientists, and machine learning scientists to drive INT discovery research and clinical development. 

Here’s What You’ll Do: 

• Design, implement and evaluate leading-edge machine learning bioinformatics algorithms focusing on epitope presentation, immunogenicity, and neoantigen selection

• Collaborate with computational and wet-lab scientists to support INT research and clinical development

• Establish and implement innovative best practices for high-dimensional data integration, prediction algorithm development, and rapid iteration to improve data and algorithm quality 

• Collaborate cross-functionally to implement improvements in production pipelines 

• Maintain detailed documentation of methods and results

• Participate in team meetings and present actionable findings 

• Stay current with the literature and leading-edge approaches 

Here’s What You’ll Need: 

• Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Statistics, or related quantitative discipline

• A minimum of 2 years post-doctorate work experience in a computational setting  

• Strong foundational understanding and proven track record in machine learning algorithm development and deployment 

• Experience with Python, and R, high-performance computing such as the AWS cloud computing platform

• Outstanding communication skills (verbal and written)

• Ability to work independently as well as a part of a collaborative research team

• Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment 

• Fluency with biological terms and concepts

• A continuous learning mindset and the desire to push past established limits
