Under the direction of the Chief Operations Officer (COO), the Development Director will oversee the development and implementation of the CRCD Ecosystem fund development strategy. The Development Director’s primary responsibilities are to manage the day-to-day functions of the fund development and grants administration team, which involve developing funding priorities for CRCD, CRCD Enterprises, and CRCD Partners, managing the grants administration team, managing and tracking the annual fundraising goal, and provide strategic oversight of the ecosystem grant development and submissions. This position will measure and document the implementation status and success of the SLAAI Funder’s Collaborative.  


The Development Director organizes the SLAAI Funder’s Collaborative in collaboration with the COO and the Chief Community Innovation Officer (CCIO) and activities that lead to a regional investment of $150+ million in public, private, and federal resources into the South Los Angeles area. The Development Director manages a team of grant writing consultants, grant manager, grant coordinator, and fund development associates. The Program Manager will assign goals and benchmarks for each staff position and ensure that all members of staff understand their responsibilities and have the training and material support they need. 


Oversight of grant prospecting, greenlighting, and proposals will be led by the Development Director, while managing the ecosystem fund development strategy. Regular interaction with their COO is expected to provide grant updates and report on the annual fundraising goal status. The Development Director is responsible for serving as the liaison to private philanthropy and the C-SUITE.  


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Work with the C-SUITE to implement a fund development strategy that contributes to annual and multi-year revenue goals. 
  • Lead and support on assigned proposal processes, including the facilitation, writing, editing, submission, and oversight of all proposal documentation and compliance with submission requirements, ensuring high-quality proposals.
  • Collaborate with department directors on proposal design and development leverage knowledge and expertise to help shape narratives that compellingly present CRCD approach and impact, and the alignment with funder priorities.
  • Implement and execute annual fundraising plan to meet annual administration and fundraising goals. 
  • Manage portfolio of private philanthropy stakeholders.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on progress towards fundraising goals.
  • Manage grant prospecting, writing, and identification of opportunities that support CRCD 5-Year Strategic Plan.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Marketing and Communications to produce donor communications, newsletters, and annual report.
  • Lead and support on assigned proposal processes, including the writing, editing, submission, and oversight of all proposal documentation and compliance with submissions requirements, ensuring high-quality proposals. 
  • Manage proposal processes in response to local, state, and federal requests or competitive RFPs from project kickoff through submission.
  • Co-facilitate SLAAI Funder’s Collaborative convenings, presentations, and reporting.
  • Organize funder collaborative communications, reports, presentations.
  • Work closely with fiscal/accounting team to track annual fundraising goals.
  • Prospect and secure corporate sponsorships for the Central Avenue Jazz Festival, annual company events, and CRCD 20th anniversary celebration.
  • Monitor proposal outcomes and lead feedback requests for unsuccessful grant applications.
  • Collaborate with the COO to oversee relationships with prospects and funders throughout the proposal development process as well as support the ongoing new grant and contract opportunities.  
  • Identify, convene, and manage internal proposal teams comprised of grant writing consultants, grants manager, grant coordinator, and interns.
  • Support and coordinate strategic priorities and goals established in CRCD’s 5-year strategic plan.
  • Identify needs and lead the development of new tools and materials.
  • Work closely with CRCD’s Learning and Evaluation team to monitor data integrity, track progress towards targets and analyze data to inform program design and delivery. 
  • Promote a positive, collaborative work environment and culture of accountability.
  • Define, document, implement and track grants administration-specific policies, procedures, standards, and metrics.
  • Be available to attend bidders conferences, out of state funders conferences, and stakeholder convenings.
