OVERALL DESCRIPTION

The Manager of Employee Communications helps lead and execute Authority-wide internal communication strategies that inform, engage, and connect employees across our operational and administrative divisions. The Manager will supervise one direct report and collaborate closely with an in-house videographer and various internal stakeholders to support operational excellence, employee culture and organizational priorities. This role requires a highly collaborative, technically adept, and organized professional who can effectively reach employees in a variety of work settings, ranging from a traditional office to the field locations, and promote safety, customer service and reliability.  This role reports to the Deputy Chief Communications Officer.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Serve as project manager for internal initiatives supporting key Authority objectives, including coordinating messaging, distribution strategy, and spearheading new, creative internal communications solutions.
  2. Support the SEPTA General Manager and leadership team by managing logistics and developing messaging for all-employee meetings; field visits to rail yards, bus depots and transit stations; and other internal meetings. Identify opportunities for senior leaders to communicate with internal audiences.
  3. Oversee employee communication channels and content, including the weekly newsletter, intranet posts (Viva Engage), digital signage, and video messaging, ensuring content is timely, relevant, and accessible.
  4. Write and edit Authority-wide communications and share field-based stories and visuals by visiting frontline operations, interviewing employees, and developing content that reflects the experiences of non-desk workers.
  5. Create and oversee an internal communications content calendar, coordinating messaging and campaigns with internal stakeholders and ensuring alignment with company-wide initiatives
  6. Collaborate across departments including IT, People & Culture, System Safety and various field teams and employee groups to design and implement a common internal communications infrastructure, outlining communications tools and establishing usage guidelines. 
  7. Educate and train staff on the best use of employee communications tools.
  8. Maintain metrics to assess the effectiveness of employee communications initiatives and recommend actions based on results.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least five years of relevant work experience in internal or employee communications or related communications areas required.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education (i.e., two (2) years of related experience, equating to one (1) year of formal post high school education) may be considered in lieu of the education requirements.
  • At least two years managing or mentoring staff is preferred.
  • Demonstrated project management experience with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with demonstrated ability to produce engaging, accessible content for diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and familiarity with digital communications tools and platforms such as SharePoint, Mailchimp/ContactMonkey, Viva Engage (Yammer), and project management software.
  • Comfort collaborating with videographers, designers, and IT professionals.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with proven ability to build trust and collaborate effectively with executive stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
