This is a hybrid position located in Columbus Ohio and you will be required to come into the office two days per week.
Consultant, Accounting Advisor (Nationwide Financial Technical Accounting)-This role is responsible for researching and communicating the proper application of GAAP and SSAP accounting standards related to key strategic initiatives and new accounting standards impacting the Nationwide Financial business segment. This role requires the ability to present and explain, both orally and in writing, complex accounting topics to a diverse group of cross functional business partners across Nationwide as well as external auditors.
Job Duties:
- Conducts accounting policy research of GAAP and SSAP standards and coordinates with business partners to ensure standards are applied appropriately to new products and/or strategically important or complex transactions
- Performs review of transaction/product contracts to ensure all relevant accounting implications are identified and considered
- Prepares Ad-Hoc analyses to support conclusions reached with external auditors and regulators
- Prepares pro-forma financial statements for significant or complex transactions and ensures the transaction is reported accurately in the financial statements
- Prepares/performs review of accounting conclusion documentation and coordinates review with external auditors
- Monitors proposed standard updates and works with business partners to assess the impact of and implement newly issued accounting standards
- Coordinates with the Accounting Policy Team to ensure accounting policies are updated as needed to reflect changes in accounting policy

Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Coordinates the research, analysis and implementation of new and/or revised accounting policies and procedures. Develops recommendations to enhance, improve or facilitate job performance, processing or workflow.
Advises senior management on acquiring data, records, analyzing and preparing complex accounting transactions and statements.
Responsible for development and submission of complex accounting and financial transactions required to ensure accurate reporting at all levels.
Advises management of the accuracy of all reports, forms and data provided to internal and external clients/customers.
Coordinates development of actions/policies to deal with unfavorable financial situations as disclosed by accounting analysis.
Functions as the specialist on changes to GAAP and/or STAT regulatory requirements which ultimately impact the submission of financial documents, reports and other data. Provides consultation on the internal impact.
Acts as project lead in development and design of new and enhanced systems and processes
