Description
The Correctional Food Service Worker Shift Lead supervises and coordinates the activities of food service staff in a correctional facility to ensure the efficient and safe preparation and distribution of meals. This role involves managing shift operations, ensuring compliance with safety and sanitation standards, and maintaining quality control of food services.

Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
1. Supervision and Leadership:
o Lead, supervise, and schedule a team of food service workers during assigned shifts.
o Provide training, guidance, and support to staff to ensure adherence to operational standards and procedures.
o Monitor staff performance and address any issues or concerns in a timely manner.
2. Food Preparation and Service:
o Oversee the preparation and serving of meals in accordance with established menus and recipes.
o Ensure that food is prepared and served in compliance with health and safety regulations.
o Conduct regular inspections to ensure food quality, portion control, and presentation meet standards.
3. Safety and Sanitation:
o Enforce safety and sanitation protocols to maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment.
o Monitor and ensure compliance with hygiene standards, including proper food handling and storage practices.
o Conduct regular inspections of kitchen equipment and report any maintenance or repair needs.
4. Inventory and Ordering:
o Assist with inventory management, including the ordering, receipt, and storage of food and supplies.
o Track inventory levels and make recommendations for reordering based on usage and need.
5. Record Keeping and Reporting:
o Maintain accurate records of food service operations, including meal counts, food temperatures, and staff hours.
o Prepare and submit reports as required by facility management.
6. Compliance and Regulations:
o Ensure that food service operations comply with relevant regulations, policies, and procedures.
o Stay informed about changes in food safety regulations and implement necessary changes in procedures.
Qualifications:
· High school diploma or equivalent; additional coursework or certification in food service management or culinary arts preferred.
· Previous experience in a food service environment, preferably in a supervisory role.
· Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
· Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure, security-sensitive environment.
· Good organizational and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to pass a background check and meet any other facility-specific requirements.
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs.
· Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks associated with food service operations.
Working Conditions:
· Work is performed in a correctional facility kitchen environment with potential exposure to hazardous conditions.
· Must be able to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
