Job Summary
Join our Orthopedic team as a Referral Patient Service Representative. This role supports patient access and care coordination by managing incoming referrals, scheduling appointments and ensuring patients are connect to the appropriate provider and level of care in a timely and efficient manner. This role serves as a critical link between patients, providers and clinical teams while promoting exceptional patient experience, operational excellence and accurate scheduling practices. The Referral PSR works in a high volume, fast-paced, team- driven environment.
Successful candidates demonstrate strong communication skills, attention to detail, professionalism, critical thinking, adaptability and the ability to work collaboratively within standardized workflows while support quality, compliance, patient safety and access goals.
Essential Functions
- Responsible for complex patient/customer problem solving, including high level discernment when registering patients in treatment rooms.
- Performs administrative functions, including, but not limited to: assists with patient check-out; schedules patient appointments, incoming/outgoing referrals, in office procedures, surgeries and tests, including medical record review of incoming referrals; maintains and modifies provider template; navigates external patient referral portals; reconciles multidepartment deposit.
- Obtains insurance authorizations and/or verifies that prior authorization has been obtained; assists with retroactive insurance denials/appeals.
- Responsible for complex EMR/EHR scanning and Right Fax faxing and uploading to EPIC.
- Assists with training new team members utilizing standard work.
- Ability to perform the role of Patient Services Representative, Associate when necessary.
- Actively participates in safety initiatives and risk mitigating measures where appropriate and completes all position and unit safety related competencies and requirements on a timely basis.

Qualifications
Required
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 2 year of relevant experience in insurance billing, access management, patient financial services, electronic health records, lab service support or other related fields
