Description

We are welcoming candidates for a Global Christianity position in the Department of Biblical Studies and Christian Ministries.  Gordon College invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track assistant or associate professor appointment.  Position to begin August 2018.  Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience. The Department of Biblical Studies and Christian Ministries is a vibrant collection of faculty and students who work collaboratively and are committed to historic, centrist evangelical theology, diverse in expression and ecumenical in spirit.

Building on our rich history and founder A.J. Gordon, our program prepares graduates for intercultural, ecumenical, and indigenous ministries through course work, generative experiences, and critical reflection regarding diverse international contexts, responsible multicultural engagement, and complex global environments in service to the mission of God and for human flourishing. The changing demographics in Global Christianity and Gordon’s commitment to innovation allows opportunities to create new courses and forge partnerships that enrich student learning and research. Our faculty contribute significantly to student life campus-wide, cross-departmental grants, and campus-wide initiatives. These interdepartmental connections demonstrate institutional commitment to programs that are theologically-grounded, historically-oriented, and multidisciplinary-conversant as well as informed by the best practices in Christian ministries. 

We seek a missiologist who can fulfill four roles: 1.) teaching missiology and theology (sample courses: foundations of global Christianity, contemporary developments in world missions, survey of world religions, introductory theology, upper-level “readings” in global theology), 2.) scholarship in missiology; 3.) advancing the College’s contribution to the study of Global Christianity 4.) joining the department’s ongoing effort to lead and facilitate missiological and theological discourse on and off campus. 

The Department is composed of nine full-time faculty who serve collaboratively and enjoy a high level of collegiality.  Our faculty have published on a wide range of subjects and travel both nationally and internationally to speak in churches and at conferences to continue their scholarly research.

Graduates of the department go on to minister in various capacities in church and parchurch ministries worldwide, study in top graduate schools and seminaries, and follow vocations in a wide range of fields and a variety of contexts.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • a demonstrated commitment to the mission of God in both life and scholarship
  • a strong commitment to the Christian mission of the college
  • a passion for excellent teaching and mentoring of undergraduates
  • a commitment to diverse global expressions of the Christian faith
  • significant experience in intercultural ministries and missions
  • a willingness to enhance and participate in the collegial ethos of the department
  • an earned doctorate in intercultural studies, missiology, or a cognate discipline
  • a vibrant, established research agenda and publication record in missiology
  • collaborative skills to work across departments and disciplines

The preferred candidate will:

  • integrate undergraduate research opportunities with his or her research agenda
  • develop his or her scholarship in coordination with Gordon’s faculty development program, grant director, and aspirations of the College to advance the study of Global Christianity
  • serve our students and assist their academic pursuits as well as vocational and calling discernment following graduation
  • advocate for student ministry placement in cooperation with career services
