Description
The Process Engineering Manager leads a team of process and continuous improvement engineers responsible for continuous improvement in process, cost, quality and production throughput. Must have knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies such as 6 sigma and Kaizen tools to stabilize, improve or modify process’ to make them safe, stable, mistake proof, low scrap, efficient, lean and of maximum throughput. Must have the ability to utilize lean tools and techniques to drive down waste, redundancy, and errors, as well as value creation via scrap reduction, cost down projects, and capacity enhancements. Must utilize metrics to drive and measure projects to closure.Key Responsibilities
- Leads and assigns tasks to engineering and technical personnel.
- Participates with plant staff in the selection, definition, and expectation of process and continuous improvement projects for the engineering team.
- Drives team to utilize strong, mistake proof, and if possible automated solutions to key projects.
- Oversees project logistics and resource allocation.
- Drives projects with CI methodologies such as 6 sigma and Kaizen tools.
- Strives to improve efficiency and sustainability of processes to reduce waste.
- Secures the resources needed for teams to excel, including researching and proposing capital investments.
- Ensures teams receive proper and continuous training to ensure success.
- Helps to create and oversee project budgets and engages in cost management strategies.
- Attends trade shows and conferences, and makes site visits to suppliers’ facilities to forge and maintain relationships.
- Maintains high level expertise in their field or sector.
- Assures that processes meet quality and safety compliance guidelines.
- Collaborates with other team leaders and departments.
- Ability to read design blueprints
- Experience with optimizing productivity
- Collaborate with leaders of other CD plants to discuss, share and implement solutions, standardization and best practices between facilities
- Daily contact with Plant Manager, Production Manager, Quality Control, Production Control, Sales, Lab, Maintenance, and Human Resources
- Periodic contact with plants in Mexico and New Bedford.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Background in continuous improvement
- Knowledge of CI methodology, preferably six sigma and Kaizen
- Minimum of four (4) years manufacturing experience.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Must have good computer skills and strong knowledge of windows excel, word and powerpoint.
- Minitab experience a strong plus
- Engineering degree, preferably chemical or mechanical
- 10+ years of process engineering or continuous improvement experience in manufacturing could replace the Engineering degree requirement
- Full body movement/good eyesight, hearing and mental capabilities
- Noisy conditions
- Must be able to withstand eight (8) to ten (10) hours of constant movement.
