Job Summary

In addition to performing the functions of a Technical Service Specialist (TSS), you will be organizing, overseeing, and summarizing the work of other TSS.  You are responsible for assisting in the assignment and review of work performed by other TSS, as well as overseeing, collating, summarizing, and interpreting pertinent testing results.  You will assist in coordinating scheduled TSS work to minimize the impact on production while also ensuring work is completed within regulated time frames.  You will act as both a liaison and advisor to other local and remote departments and external resources.   Additionally, you will assist in ensuring local resources (such as parts inventories and skill sets) are sufficient for the local team of TSS to properly perform their duties.

Work Schedule: Flexibility offered for either 1st or 2nd shift with a start time between 7:00am-10:00am Monday through Friday.

Candidates given best consideration will have the following:

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in a laboratory setting including instrumental analysis.

    • Sciex LCMS/MS instruments: Experience with Sciex 4000, 5000, 5500, 6500, 7500 models, using Analyst or OS software for operating and advanced maintenance.

    • Waters Acquity UPLC: Experience with classic or iclass models for operating and advanced maintenance.

    • Strong understanding of instrumental analysis and ability to apply that understanding to the diagnosis of instrumental errors.

  • Leadership skills: Demonstrated ability to lead. Ability to be a technical leader and provide resources to the team.

  • Proven ability to balance and prioritize competing tasks while working independently

  • Strong interpersonal communication and listening skills; ability to communicate in an effective and timely manner.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

Other Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, calibrate, and clean instrumentation; perform scheduled/routine maintenance and critical function checks on analytical equipment such as GC, GC-MS, HPLC and UPLC- MS/MS as well as other chromatographic and laboratory equipment.

  • Diagnose and repair issues occurring in the above listed equipment; recognize significant changes in instrument function; troubleshoot as indicated.

  • Recognize when to contact external service vendors and work collaboratively to resolve issues quickly and efficiently to reduce overall down time of testing and/or instrument production.

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation for all laboratory equipment including, but not limited to, maintenance logs and instrument logs.

  • Schedule preventative maintenance and repairs internally and with external service vendors.

  • Consult with laboratory staff to ascertain that equipment functions properly and safely.

  • Demonstrate and explain correct operation of equipment to laboratory personnel.

  • Provide troubleshooting assistance to laboratory personnel.

  • Document and communicate equipment status to lab supervisors.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology.

Pay Range: $39.00 - $47.00 per hour (USD).
