This position within the Advanced Concepts & Engineering organization will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable space flight. Come join us to collaborate with a diverse and hardworking team of engineers to establish and enhance Design for Excellence (DFx) standards for the company. In this role, you will help develop DFx resources such as standards, processes, tools, and specifications around DFx considerations such as cost, manufacturability, assembly, operability, reliability and reusability. This role will also include process development and execution support, communication and training/coaching/mentoring others in these best practices. Additionally, you will act as a negotiator between multiple and sometimes conflicting interests in the pursuit of organization optimization as it pertains to DFx best practices.

We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and dedication to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight through directly influencing and improving our products to lower cost, improve manufacturing rates and improve quality.

General Responsibilities:

  • Partner with multi-functional teams to develop, document, and/or train teams and individual contributors on Design for X methodologies
  • Support or lead improvements to product development standard methodologies related to DFx
  • Build tools to drive design for manufacturability and assembly (DFMA) into products
  • Champion efforts to deploy/adopt DFx resource utilization and best practice implementation into products
  • Serve as a company wide expert on the processes and standards supported
  • Identify and elevate local or program level DFx approaches into company-wide standards and specifications
  • Provide export support services to areas of expertise on projects across the Enterprise

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of science in engineering from an accredited university or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in product & production system definition, development, build, qualification and deployment/operation/sustainment of complex aerospace products or equivalent
  • Proficiency guiding engineers through product development and execution as an acting design or manufacturing expert
  • Ability to communicate effectively, clearly, and with humility to customers
  • Strong coordination and project management skills to track, manage, and prioritize multiple, simultaneous tasks
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills that foster positive professional relationships.
  • Utilization of lean manufacturing methods for problem solving
  • Proven understanding of common fabrication and integration processes including machining, welding, sheet-metal bending, lifting/rigging, assembly, inspection, etc.
  • Focus toward world-class quality, attention to detail, and dedication
  • Passion for spaceflight and space exploration
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion 
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of professional engineering experience
  • Familiar with applicable industry standards
  • Excellent technical writing, grammar, and presentation experience
  • Experience with risk assessment, management, and mitigation.
  • Aircraft, spacecraft, or launch vehicle experience
  • Experience with Digital Engineering such as Model Based Systems Engineering, Model Based Engineering, etc


 

Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $140,959.00-$197,342.25
