About the role

PRIMARY PURPOSE

The Associate Attorney shall serve The Navigators and fulfill the responsibilities listed below in the spirit of The Navigators calling, values and purpose: To advance the Gospel of Jesus and His kingdom into the nations through spiritual generations of laborers living and discipling among the lost.

This position will report to the General Counsel/SVP and will support the Governance, People & Culture Group in the areas of immigration, contracts management, intellectual property, constitutional law issues and additional legal tasks.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

General Legal Functions                                                                                                                

  • Provides support to General Counsel in the areas of immigration research, drafting of legal documents, contract reviews, constitutional law research and amicus briefs, intellectual property matters, budget projections and general policy reviews and updates.
  • Assists field administrators, mission leaders and other personnel with immigration intake, fielding questions, and with general research in various fields of law.
  • Collaborates with field administrators and international staff member(s) seeking immigration assistance, letters of invitation and/or filing of an employment visa or other immigration submission(s), providing overview of current immigration landscape, preparing, and submitting immigration applications and related documents for submission.
  • Engages with outside immigration legal counsel, along with General Counsel, as needed for expert opinions on updated immigration policies, deadlines, requirements, and filing inquiries and immigration anomalies.
  • Shares responsibility for the following functions as assigned:
  • Contract audit and review during heavy contract season(s)
  • Intellectual Property tracking and management
  • Policy review/audit/updating based on changes in legislation and compliance considerations

Specific Immigration Functions                                                                                           

  • Communicates effectively and clearly with staff members, field leaders and key stakeholders seeking immigration information.
  • Conducts legal research and prepares/provides analysis of legislation in the immigration arena, keeping General Counsel abreast of updates and changes and submitting written reports on the same.
  • Prepares proper and accurate immigration petitions and assembles related filing documents in accordance with USCIS petition filing requirements for Navigator staff in the spaces of R-1 (R-2 spouse/dependent),B1Visitor Visa, L-1, H1B Lottery, I-360, I-131, I-765 filings, and I-485, among other potential USCIS petition filings in accordance with USCIS-generated specifications
  • Logs, maintains, and tracks immigration filings and related Receipt Notices and expiration dates, on a weekly basis and creates reports on the same.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Conducts research and prepares/provides analysis of ministry impact in the areas of Campus Access, Religious Liberties, and other constitutional concerns.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Assists in maintaining, monitoring and updating immigration e-files and tracking system on a regular basis.
  • Maintains documentation of job duties performed with an updated log.
  • Participates in events such as Navigator on-site events, Face-to-Face, Prayer Meetings, group Bible Studies, Nav2Nav gatherings, leadership training, team prayer and  spiritual formation training.
  • Reads spiritually and culturally developmental books and literature.
  • Participate in Navigators’ on-site learning and development events, Cultural Development and Diversity trainings, or other non-Navigator developmental events as appropriate.
  • Participate in annual processes, such as the organizational Plan and Progress Review (PPR), Engagement Survey, Reaffirmation of the Navigators Code of Conduct, Calling-Core Values-Vision, Statement of Faith, Driver’s Authorization, and other releases as required.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned by direct supervisor.
