We’re seeking a future team member in the role of Vice President, Database Engineer II to join our Structured Debt Client Platform Engineering team. This role is in Pittsburgh, PA- ONSITE/Hybrid (4-day in office/1 day optional remote).

We are seeking an accomplished and technically strong Lead Database Engineer with deep expertise in Oracle, PL/SQL, and enterprise-grade database technologies, and proven experience in the financial services domain, especially mortgage-backed securities (MBS). This role offers an opportunity to drive database strategy, performance, and reliability across critical financial systems while leading a team of engineers in a collaborative DevOps environment.

In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways: 

  • Lead the design, architecture, and implementation of scalable and secure database solutions to support complex financial applications, including MBS pricing, settlement, and reporting systems.
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize PL/SQL stored procedures, functions, packages, and scripts for high-volume financial data processing.
  • Serve as a technical leader and subject matter expert for database design, query optimization, and performance tuning across Oracle and other RDBMS platforms.
  • Oversee and mentor a team of database developers and DBAs, promoting best practices in code quality, schema management, and documentation.
  • Drive and participate in code reviews using Git-based workflows (e.g., GitHub, Bitbucket, GitLab), ensuring database scripts and migrations meet quality, security, and performance standards.
  • Work closely with application teams using branching strategies, pull requests, and version control practices to coordinate changes to database schemas and procedures.
  • Partner with development, infrastructure, and DevOps teams to integrate databases into CI/CD pipelines, ensuring safe and repeatable deployments using tools like Liquibase, Flyway, Jenkins, or AWS CodePipeline.
  • Implement monitoring and alerting for key database metrics, ensuring uptime, responsiveness, and early detection of anomalies.
  • Conduct SQL performance analysis and tuning using Oracle AWR, TKPROF, SQL Trace, and other diagnostic tools.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders and MBS analysts to ensure accurate modeling of pools, securities, and remittance workflows, maintaining compliance 
  • Manage data migration, upgrades, and cloud transitions (on-prem to AWS RDS/Aurora), validating performance and integrity post-migration.
  • Enforce database security, auditing, access control, and compliance requirements across development and production environments.
  • Champion best practices for versioned database development, change tracking, and rollback strategies.
  • Maintain documentation and knowledge sharing practices using Confluence, JIRA, and other collaboration tools.
  • Contribute to the long-term database architecture strategy, identifying areas for technical debt reduction, standardization, and automation.
  • Keep pace with emerging database trends, cloud-native features, and financial data standards impacting the MBS space.

To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following: 

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience required. 
  • 7-10 years of experience in software development required; experience in the securities or financial services industry is a plus; should have thorough knowledge of the software development cycle 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments with JIRA, Confluence, Slack, and collaborative development workflows.
  • Experience with feature flags, blue-green deployments, and observability tooling.
  • Experience with financial data standards, MBS reporting formats or regulatory data compliance.
