Job Overview

The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine is recruiting a Research Scientist to work in the lab of Dr. Frank McCormack. The incumbent will work on the funded research projects, particularly focused on response of the lung and pleural space to particulate exposures. This person will conduct research experiments and analyze research data, ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of the University of Cincinnati.

Essential Functions

  • Modify and adapt experimental protocols, techniques and procedures to specific project requirements. 
  • Design, coordinate and conduct experimental procedures. 
  • Prepare research results and written summaries of results in manuscript form for publications and in graphics form for presentation at research meetings and for grant proposals. 
  • Maintain and ensure compliance with regulatory protocols and records.
  • May submit research proposals as principal investigator for intramural/extramural funding.
  • May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).

Required Education

Prior to date of appointment must have obtained a PhD in biological sciences and/or MD.

Required Experience

  • At least 5 years of research experience in a basic science laboratory with skills including but not limited to animal experimentation, genetic manipulation of mice and cells, and cell culture. Will be expected to contribute meaningfully to grants and papers.
  • Additional related work experience may be required depending on field or discipline.
