About the role

The Director, Football Business Operations & Strategy is responsible for overseeing strategy and innovation for the Football Operations department. This individual will also be tasked with engaging all football stakeholders (internally and externally) to drive the growth and innovation of football. This person will develop new initiatives and lead projects that support the football operations department throughout the season and assist in executing football operations initiatives.

The Director, Football Business Strategy, will lead strategy initiatives, develop ideas, and own the results of several projects. In collaboration with other internal NFL and Football Operations departments, this person will own significant projects that support League key priorities. The role supports the mission and vision of NFL Football Operations and the objectives of the Business Operations & Strategy unit by driving strategic alignment, creating value and strengthening the overall future of the game.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead strategic planning and reporting: Lead the Football Operations business plan team, aggregating unit plans for management review and managing reporting processes within the Business Strategy & Operations unit and across Football Operations. (Outcome: Provides clear strategic direction and performance visibility for the department).
  • Drive innovation and future-focused initiatives: Lead department innovation initiatives, collaborate with the Future of Football committee, and identify & research innovations to enhance the game and business of football. (Outcome: Generates and implements innovative ideas to advance the future of football).
  • Support business operations and risk management: Support the department’s Enterprise Risk Management process and business operations, including regular check-ins with each business unit on strategy and budgeting. (Outcome: Ensures effective risk mitigation and efficient resource allocation across the department).
  • Facilitate internal alignment and collaboration: Oversee the department’s internal committees and serve as an internal consultant to each vertical, developing vertical-specific strategies and consolidating them into a cohesive Football Operations strategy. Also facilitate communication and collaboration across all Football Operations business units. (Outcome: Promotes synergistic efforts and strategic alignment across all verticals within Football Operations).
  • Support key initiatives and events: Provide operational and tactical support for Football Operations events, support other Football Operations units and the International group with key initiatives and events, and provide support across League tentpole events and initiatives. (Outcome: Ensures successful execution of key initiatives and events).
  • Manage special projects: Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in taking on ad hoc projects and organizational challenges. (Outcome: Effectively addresses emerging needs and contributes to overall departmental agility).
  • Other duties assigned by the department.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum 10 years of work experience in strategy, innovation, and finance.
  • Strong analytical background with proficiency in handling various data sets and programs.
  • Experience managing program budgets.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA or related advanced degree
  • 5+ years of management experience
  • Experience in the sports industry

Terms /Expected Hours of Work:
40 hours per week; overtime and weekend work may be required as needed.
