About the role

Artsy is on a mission to expand the art market to support more artists and art in the world. As a Senior or Lead Product Designer, you will play a key role in shaping and elevating our customer experience, ensuring collectors can seamlessly discover, follow, and purchase artworks. This role requires strategic, user-centered thinking and exceptional design craft to deliver engaging, frictionless experiences. You’ll work on complex design challenges that directly impact Artsy’s marketplace, empowering collectors to make meaningful connections with artists and galleries. This is an exciting opportunity to drive innovative design solutions in a global luxury eCommerce space.

You will be part of the Product Design team, a collaborative group of designers embedded within a multidisciplinary Product organization. This team works closely with Product, Data, and Engineering to drive user-centered decisions and deliver meaningful impact. Reporting to the Director of Product Design, you will contribute to shaping the product roadmap, iterating on high-value features, and enhancing our design systems. You will also have the opportunity to mentor more junior designers and contribute to a culture of design excellence.

You’ll be joining a newly formed team focused on engagement, retention, and the overall app experience. The goal: build intuitive, compelling experiences that keep collectors coming back – whether they’re discovering new artists, browsing fresh works, or diving deeper into the art world.

This is a full time hybrid role, with in office attendance required 1-2 days a week. This role is based in our NYC office.

What You’ll Do at Artsy:

  • Lead product design projects across the entire lifecycle, from discovery to launch, ensuring a seamless and engaging collector experience.

  • Provide strategic design leadership, helping to shape a unified vision for user experience across the platform.

  • Develop multiple design concepts, prototypes, and artifacts that inform product strategy and create high-quality customer experiences.

  • Use qualitative and quantitative data to inform design decisions and continuously improve Artsy’s products.

  • Strengthen collaboration between Product, Engineering, and Data teams by fostering transparency and shared knowledge of user interactions.

  • Facilitate workshops, stakeholder discussions, and feedback sessions to drive innovation and alignment across teams.

This role is a fit for you if:

  • You have extensive product design experience (full end-to-end product development) and understand the complexities of a low-frequency two-sided marketplace, luxury, eCommerce, or Startup products.

  • You have a strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in digital product design, visual design, and UX/UI principles across web and mobile.

  • You are fluent in translating user insights and data into tangible, customer-centric solutions across app and web platforms.

  • You possess strong design fundamentals, including interaction design, information architecture, usability principles, and a keen eye for detail.

  • You are highly collaborative, thrive in cross-functional teams, and can work effectively with engineers, product managers, and data analysts.

  • You are currently authorized to live and work in the USA.

  • This role will be based in New York

It’s a plus if you…

  • You have experience designing for growth-oriented projects and optimising user acquisition, engagement, and retention.

  • You have a working knowledge of SEO best practices and how they influence design decisions.

  • Have experience scaling and maintaining a design system in collaboration with engineers and other designers.

This role is unlikely to be a good match if you….

  • Struggle to work collaboratively with stakeholders across multiple disciplines and time zones.

  • Prefer working on isolated design tasks rather than end-to-end product experiences.

What success looks like in your first 3-6 months:
First 3 months:

  • Gain a deep understanding of Artsy’s design systems, collector journey, and business goals.

  • Establish relationships with cross-functional teams and begin contributing to ongoing projects.

First 6 months:

  • Lead a key product design initiative from discovery to execution.

  • Implement improvements based on user feedback and data-driven insights.
