Job Description
AECOM’s office in Minneapolis, Minnesota, is actively seeking a self-motivated Senior Transportation Planner to join our Minneapolis-based Surface Transportation team, providing technical expertise and managing transportation and environmental planning and related tasks for public and private transportation and infrastructure clients throughout our Minnesota and regional geography. The ideal candidate should have an established and successful history of executing and managing corridor planning-level programs as well as the environmental review process for small and large-scale projects. The ideal candidate will be a player-coach, with the ability to self-perform and leverage other local and regional resources in the execution of assigned work.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Providing subject matter expertise in the regulatory compliance processes of NEPA, Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, and other federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
- Managing and preparing National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents.
- Performing/overseeing environmental technical studies and report preparation per NEPA regulations and standards.
- Performing/overseeing corridor and pre-design studies, alternatives analysis and report preparation, with primary focus on MnDOT and with the goal of positioning AECOM for follow-on design work
- Facilitating public and agency outreach; Overseeing all aspects of transportation planning and environmental projects including cost estimates, alternatives analysis, schedule, and budget.
- Working with an interdisciplinary team of technical specialists and managing their project-delivery efforts, including roadway, traffic, rail, ITS, bridge structures, environmental, water resources, others
- Assisting with proposals and business development, an integrated member of AECOM’s Minnesota client service team.
- Building an AECOM transportation planning capability in Minnesota, in close partnership and collaboration with our regional planning center of excellence in Chicago.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- BA/BS + 10 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
Preferred skills and qualifications include:
- BA/BS in Environmental Sciences, Planning, Geography, Engineering, or related fields.
- A minimum of ten (10) years combined experience in project management, transportation planning, and MEPA compliance.
- Knowledge and experience with environmental review and compliance requirements in Minnesota.
- Technical background and expertise in a NEPA discipline, such as cultural resources, noise, air quality, biology, Clean Water Act permitting as well as MEPA standards at the local/state level.
- Familiarity with roadway design standards (e.g., AASHTO, NACTO, etc.)
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience implementing MnDOT's Project Development Process.
- Established relationships at the MnDOT, Metropolitan Council, and/or county level.
- Demonstrated experience in winning work/projects through business development and RFP's, bids, etc.
- Demonstrated Corridor planning experience.
- Demonstrated technical writing and communication skills.
- Demonstrated collaborative skills working in a matrixed organization.
- Specific project experience in transportation infrastructure.
