Vice President Retail Lending

WSECU is one of the largest credit unions in Washington State and as we continue our growth we are seeking a highly skilled leader to steer the retail lending team through exciting changes, transforming and evolving processes and utilizing technology to create operational excellence while maintaining a passion around our purpose and vision, and the development of team members.
The Vice President of Retail Lending provides oversight and strategic direction for all aspects of WSECU’s Consumer and Mortgage Loan (“Retail Lending”) activities including first mortgage lending, home equity lending, indirect vehicle lending, consumer lending, and credit cards. You’ll primarily be responsible for the member borrowing experience, along with the execution of the Credit Union’s risk strategy through underwriting.
As Vice President, you will be responsible for leading consumer and mortgage lending origination strategies and overseeing the business plan, with support from direct reports who supervise daily operations within each department. As the VP of Residential Lending, your day might include:
- Developing, overseeing, and implementation of the annual Retail Lending strategy and Business Plan
- Overseeing productivity and workflow efficiencies of all Retail Lending and back-office operations
- Providing strong leadership to managers in each area of responsibility through regular coaching, evaluations, employee development and training
- Recommending new products and pricing strategies in all areas of retail lending to meet current and future member needs
- Managing product margins while maintaining the quality of the loan portfolio, and continually assessing the organization’s credit risk, concentration limits, and liquidity
- Maintaining knowledge of the Consumer and Mortgage landscape to ensure WSECU’s lending programs remain relevant
- Assuring compliance with state and federal laws
- Recommending and oversees related budgeting of revenue, expense and production projections
- Partnering with the Marketing Department to drive results toward meeting production goals
- Collaborating with all areas of the credit union and external business partners to accomplish strategic goals and ensure the appropriate levels of compliance and service
What you bring to the team:
- Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field; year-for-year experience may substitute for formal education MBA highly desirable
- Minimum five (5) years of successful, well-rounded management experience in a financial institution in all aspects of lending
- Experience in mortgage lending, consumer lending, indirect vehicle lending, underwriting, and centralized retail loan operations
- Technically proficient in consumer and mortgage lending systems, underwriting criteria and risk scoring
- Strong organizational, communication, analytical, project management, problem solving and decision-making skills required
- Proven leadership skills and the ability to drive high quality loan growth through lending products and delivery channels and superior member service
- Proficiency in PC software, including Microsoft programs and standard lending systems and the ability to learn credit union-specific operating systems and programs
- Budgeting and strong presentation experience
Competitive Base Pay Range: $161,434.11 - $269,056.86 annually, dependent on relevant qualifications, plus an annual discretionary incentive plan and benefits package
- The target starting pay for this position is $161,434.11 - $215,245.48 annually, typically within the first half of the range. Actual offers will be based on individual qualifications relevant to the role and will not take an applicant’s pay history into account.
- The range above allows our employees room for growth through annual merit and other pay increase during their tenure in the position.
Where we’re located: 330 Union Ave, Olympia WA. Employee must reside and perform all work in the state of Washington. This is a hybrid position that blends working in-office and from home. Works onsite in Olympia Headquarters at least 2 occasions per week, Wednesdays and one other day per week, with flexibility to report onsite more often for business needs.
When you’d work: Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5:30 pm, full time minimum 40 hours per week, with scheduling flexibility to meet service needs for this Exempt position.
