About the role

This role leads complex multimedia projects with high visibility and strategic impact ensuring we are creating meaningful and impactful content that helps drive the university’s mission of academic excellence. This position requires professional judgment in planning, developing, and executing creative projects that align with the university’s and department’s goals. The Media Studio Manager collaborates with faculty, external partners, and other units across campus to create engaging content for online courses and marketing efforts and advises on strategic communications.

Video Production & Project Management

  • Serve as producer/director for medium to large multimedia projects, including scheduling and resource management.
  • Construct and stage studio sets, including props, and backdrops, and assuming primary responsibility for lighting, while ensuring safety for staff and talent.
  • Lead art direction, ensuring the creative direction, visual tone, and content align with the university’s branding strategies.
  • Utilize experience and professional judgment to develop and execute video production plans that support goals.
  • Operate video production equipment such as cameras, teleprompters, and audio gear.
  • Review video team’s produced content to ensure quality meets expectations and accessibility requirements before delivery to clients
  • Edit media in support of multiple delivery platforms and deliver produced content within established deadlines
  • Display editorial and creative decision making while working independently on medium-to-large sized video and multimedia projects.
  • Design and produce motion graphics and animated effects, incorporating editorial and creative decision-making throughout.
  • Plan, design, and create multimedia content across video, advertising, web design, social media, marketing, public relations, and photography.
  • Edit content for various delivery platforms.
  • Develop technical, promotional, and creative materials to promote the university’s mission, goals, and achievements.
  • Translate complex academic content into cohesive multimedia communications that are accessible and compelling to diverse audiences.
  • Create and manage production project plans, schedules, and budgets, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Oversees and leads the work of others functioning as the production project lead and be able to prioritize multiple projects effectively and efficiently.
  • Participate, as needed, in the design, coordination, and development of integrated communication and marketing strategies that align with university goals

Leadership & Supervision

  • Hire, train, supervise, and mentor full-time video production staff and student workers.
  • Research and recommend hardware, software, and innovative solutions for media production.
  • Accountable for scheduling and monitoring work of others guided by objectives and expected outcomes with limited direction
  • Maintain organization of equipment inventory, performing repairs and replacement as necessary
  • Maintain and organize digital media libraries and equipment inventories, ensuring proper archiving and retrieval of assets.
  • Educate and direct clients on the studio’s media production processes, determine project scope, and continue correspondence to project completion
  • Consult with clients and stakeholders, both internal and external, to assess needs, develop solutions, and oversee the full scope of projects from concept to completion.
  • Promote and maintain an atmosphere of excellence in customer service, in both verbal and written communications
  • Build relationships across campus units and with external university partners
  • Provide creative leadership, directing talent, and coordinating freelance consultants as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in graphic design, communications, video production, cinema studies, social sciences/humanities and at least 7 years video production experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in in graphic design, communications, video production, cinema studies, social sciences/humanities and at least 4 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: Master's degree in graphic design, comm, video production, cinema, related field
  • Small to medium-size creative agency experience
  • Familiarity with higher education work environment
