The Smart Grid Research Center in the Roy G. Perry College of Engineering at Prairie View A&M University invites applications for a Research Assistant Professor position. The successful candidate will lead and expand the center’s research portfolio in the area of Virtual Reality (VR) with applications to smart grid systems. This is a non-tenure track, research-focused position that offers an excellent opportunity to develop an independent research program, contribute to interdisciplinary initiatives, and collaborate on externally funded projects.
Responsibilities:
Research and Scholarship
Conduct original research in the integration of Virtual Reality (VR) technologies within smart grid systems.
Develop and manage a robust, externally funded research program.
Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at professional conferences.
Collaborate with faculty across disciplines and engage with external partners, including industry and national laboratories.
Contribute to the strategic growth and national visibility of the Smart Grid Research Center.
Grant Writing and Research Development
Lead and contribute to the development of competitive research proposals to federal agencies, foundations, and industry sponsors.
Identify interdisciplinary funding opportunities aligned with the center’s priorities.
Build partnerships and consortia to support collaborative proposals.
Student Mentorship
Supervise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students involved in research.
Support students’ academic and professional development through regular guidance and feedback.
Foster a collaborative and all-encompassing research environment.
Teaching
Teach one course per academic year in Electrical or Computer Engineering (or related area.)
Integrate research into teaching to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
Participate in course assessment and curriculum enhancement as needed.
Required Education and Experience:
Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
No prior experience required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated research expertise in Virtual Reality (VR) technologies.
Strong record of scholarly publications and research productivity.
Excellent communication, teamwork, and project management skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience teaching courses.
Background in smart grid systems, energy systems, or related fields.
Prior experience mentoring students or supervising research teams.
Experience working in interdisciplinary and collaborative research environments.
