Job Description

The Smart Grid Research Center in the Roy G. Perry College of Engineering at Prairie View A&M University invites applications for a Research Assistant Professor position. The successful candidate will lead and expand the center’s research portfolio in the area of Virtual Reality (VR) with applications to smart grid systems. This is a non-tenure track, research-focused position that offers an excellent opportunity to develop an independent research program, contribute to interdisciplinary initiatives, and collaborate on externally funded projects.

Responsibilities:

Research and Scholarship

• Conduct original research in the integration of Virtual Reality (VR) technologies within smart grid systems.

• Develop and manage a robust, externally funded research program.

• Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at professional conferences.

• Collaborate with faculty across disciplines and engage with external partners, including industry and national laboratories.

• Contribute to the strategic growth and national visibility of the Smart Grid Research Center.

Grant Writing and Research Development

• Lead and contribute to the development of competitive research proposals to federal agencies, foundations, and industry sponsors.

• Identify interdisciplinary funding opportunities aligned with the center’s priorities.

• Build partnerships and consortia to support collaborative proposals.

Student Mentorship

• Supervise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students involved in research.

• Support students’ academic and professional development through regular guidance and feedback.

• Foster a collaborative and all-encompassing research environment.

Teaching

• Teach one course per academic year in Electrical or Computer Engineering (or related area.)

• Integrate research into teaching to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.

• Participate in course assessment and curriculum enhancement as needed.

Required Education and Experience:

• Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.

• No prior experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Demonstrated research expertise in Virtual Reality (VR) technologies.

• Strong record of scholarly publications and research productivity.

• Excellent communication, teamwork, and project management skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience teaching courses.

• Background in smart grid systems, energy systems, or related fields.

• Prior experience mentoring students or supervising research teams.

• Experience working in interdisciplinary and collaborative research environments.
