About the role
Position Summary:
Field position requiring out of town travel majority of the time. This position performs mechanical, electrical and/or controls/programming upgrades, modifications, repairs, maintenance, service, troubleshooting, startup, installation, supervision, audits, training, and support for packaging equipment. This includes equipment manufactured by the AHC family of companies as well as non AHC OEM equipment.
Major Responsibilities:
- Repair or assemble Regal Rexnord products and equipment as well as other suppliers’ equipment and various assemblies of parts of different types and sizes. Technicians must perform mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic assembly and test functions.
- Safely and efficiently install and commission conveying and palletizing equipment at client sites. This includes assessing the site, setting up equipment, testing functionality, and ensuring that all systems operate as per specifications.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on conveyors and associated systems to minimize breakdowns and equipment malfunctions. This includes inspecting equipment, cleaning and lubricating parts, replacing worn components, and making necessary adjustments to ensure optimal performance.
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical failures and malfunctions of conveying and palletizing equipment using various tools and diagnostic techniques. This may include replacing or repairing broken parts, making necessary adjustments, and testing equipment to confirm that issues have been resolved.
- Liaise with our design and production teams to suggest product improvements and enhancements based on field observations and customer feedback.
- Provide recommendations to clients and management regarding necessary upgrades or replacements based on equipment conditions.
- Possessing good mechanical knowledge and the ability to effectively use various tools, showcasing competence in mechanical tasks and maintenance activities.
- Previous experience in the packaging industry would be a strong advantage, as it demonstrates familiarity with this sector's specific requirements and challenges.
- Stay up to date on administrative responsibilities, including maintaining internal service records and manuals, customer service logs, accurate reporting (expense reports, project closure, timekeeping, etc.), and documenting work on Service Reports
- Fluent in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, highlighting proficiency in using these software tools for documentation, data analysis, and presentations.
Required Education / Experience / Skills:
- Minimum of three (3) years of hands-on experience with mechanical work within an industrial, manufacturing, or military setting, emphasizing the importance of mechanical systems.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, emphasizing the ability to understand complex diagrams and blueprints.
- Flexibility to work on all shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime, showcasing dedication to ensuring uninterrupted operations. Additionally, willingness to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing, and/or pulling for up to 12 hours daily.
- Possession of a high school diploma or GED, confirming the basic educational qualification necessary for the role.
- Strong commitment to safety, adhering to all safety rules and regulations and properly utilizing personal protective equipment (PPE), specifically emphasizing its importance in mechanical safety.
- Safe operation of forklift, manlift, and other rental equipment.
- Basic electrical knowledge and wiring practices would be an asset.
- Field Service Technicians can expect a workload utilization of 75-80%, which may involve working two to three weekends per month, frequent last-minute dispatches due to the nature of the industry, occasional work on Holidays to align with customer project schedules, and potential opportunities for overseas work, averaging around 10% per year.
- Field Service Technicians are required to have personal credit cards, as expenses incurred during work-related activities will be reimbursed within a prompt period of 5 days upon submission of the expense report.
- Applicants must have legal authorization for employment in the United States as a prerequisite for consideration. A valid Driver's license with a clean driving record and limited violations is also required.
