Supports all activities related to the administration of databases in a client/server environment. 

 

 

Overview
The University Data Warehouse Manager will bear principal responsibility for building and managing the data warehouse infrastructure, ensuring the availability, accuracy, and security of data. The incumbent will work to support the university's strategic goals by providing data-driven insights and facilitating informed decision-making processes.


Key Responsibilities
Data Warehouse Design and Maintenance
•    Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of the university's data warehouse systems.
•    Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and accessibility by establishing robust data governance practices.
•    Collaborate with IT and other departments to optimize database performance and storage solutions.
Data Integration and ETL Processes
•    Manage data integration from multiple sources, ensuring seamless ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes.
•    Develop and maintain ETL workflows to ensure timely and efficient data processing.
•    Monitor and troubleshoot ETL processes, addressing any issues that arise promptly.
Data Analysis and Reporting
•    Provide data analysis and reporting solutions to support academic and administrative functions.
•    Generate and distribute regular reports on key performance indicators (KPIs) and other metrics.
•    Collaborate with stakeholders to develop custom reports and dashboards tailored to their needs.
Security and Compliance
•    Ensure data security and privacy by implementing appropriate security measures and protocols.
•    Maintain compliance with relevant regulations and standards, such as FERPA and GDPR.
•    Conduct regular security audits and assessments to identify and mitigate potential risks.

 

Summary
This successful candidate will be UM's first Data Warehouse Manager and will recruit and hire his or her own team of employees, and play a crucial role in designing and building a new data warehouse as well as the technical support, data governance, and analytics systems surrounding it.  

Examples of Work Performed

  • Hiring, professional development, and daily supervision of professional staff members. 
  • Meeting with key vendors to explore, procure, and deploy new technology solutions. 
  • Meeting with UM decision makers to learn of their business-driven data needs. 
  • Design of data products to met customer needs. 
  • Building and maintaining data feeds from production IT systems (Banner, Workday) into the data warehouse.

Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following.  Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

1. Supports projects with long-range requirements for client/server database administration in conjunction with other managers in the information systems function. 
2. Confers with and advises others on administrative policies and procedures, technical problems, priorities and methods as they relate to unit data. 
3. Manages  the day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and resolves personnel issues.
