Senior Data Engineer & Lead Data Engineer

As a base platform for our data warehouse is Snowflake, our various businesses can utilize the immense assortment of rich and bountiful data. Sales receipts, orders, deliveries, and all store product assortments are just examples of the data that we receive, store, and refine, from every S Group retail brand and store all over Finland.

Our cross-functional team consists of multiple great minds working with retail data, for example, gas pricing for our gas station chain ABC and sales data from our stores like S-Market and Prisma. If you have a passion for data, a knack for problem-solving, and a desire to work with cutting-edge technologies, we want you on our team.

Your responsibilities

We are now growing our internal capabilities by recruiting two new team members to strengthen our Retail Analytics team in Helsinki.

As a Senior Data Engineer/ Lead Data Engineer, you will be responsible for developing scalable and efficient data models that power our analytics. Your primary duties will include dimensional data modeling. You will also design and implement data ingestion from source systems while ensuring data quality and adherence to established standards. Your contributions will directly impact our ability to derive insights from data and drive informed decisions. 

In addition, in the Lead Data Engineer role, you will work with the analytics Product Owner and Data Steward planning and refining the development team’s work. You will also work together with the PO to prioritize the development backlog, following and adhering to the chosen agile development practices (Scrum or Kanban). 

Our workplace is at our Helsinki office, Ässäkeskus. However, the teams decide independently how often they work at the office. Currently, the team works in a hybrid model and meets at the office on average 1-2 days per week.

Is this you?

You have hands-on experience with modern data warehouse technologies, such as Snowflake, and strong expertise in data modeling and data architecture. You have a collaborative team-working attitude and strong communication skills in English.

What we hope from you:  

• Proficiency in SQL for data manipulation and querying. 

• Previous experience with cloud platforms like AWS. 

• Familiarity with programming languages like Python. 

• Experience with data modeling tools like ADE, dbt, or similar. 

• A DevOps/DataOps mindset with a focus on automation and efficiency. 

In addition in the Lead role, we hope: 

• Curiosity toward a deep understanding of business processes. 

• Interest in working with business stakeholders in prioritizing and scoping data-driven solutions and business process challenges. 

• Previous experience in similar positions.
