Field Research Assistant

Overview

The Department of Plants, Soils, and Climate at Utah State University seeks a summer research assistant to assist with the forage agronomy program. This is a part-time (20-30 hr/week), hourly position. The position is fully funded for summer and may continue into the fall and winter months. The Field Research Assistant will help the research technician and graduate students in doing tasks associated with data collection, field plot maintenance, and equipment repair.

Responsibilities

Assist with irrigated crop, forage, pasture, and soil fertility management research in field and lab. Manage and irrigate field plots, collect data and samples, maintain equipment, and process and analyze samples. Supervisor will provide training.

 

Must be organized, have excellent communication skills and safety habits, and be able to work independently, follow procedures, and keep detailed records.

Qualifications

• Experience with farm equipment, field and laboratory work, and data entry and analysis are preferred

Outdoors, incumbents may not be protected from weather conditions and may be exposed to extreme heat and extreme cold. Additionally, indoor or outdoor work environments may include being confined or in narrow spaces for periods of time. The incumbent may also be exposed to loud noises or vibrations from equipment, and conditions that may affect the respiratory system, such as fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, and poor ventilation. Bending, crawling, and crouching may be required. Incumbents may be required to lift, push, and/or pull objects up to 50 pounds and be required to walk and/or stand for long periods of time.
