About the role
Included Health is seeking a technically strong, strategic, and results-driven Senior Vice President, Engineering & Data Science to join our dynamic leadership team. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, this leader will oversee a talented team of ~200 data scientists, engineers, and program managers. As the SVP, Engineering & Data Science you play a crucial role in the vision, strategy, planning, and implementation of the Included Health technology platform. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background balancing technical expertise with practical execution, and fostering a high-performance team culture to ensure seamless operational efficiency. This executive will be an experienced technical leader with a proven ability to manage and scale engineering teams in high growth environments in order to drive innovation and growth, reinforcing our position as an industry leader.
Responsibilities:
- Technical Leadership & Execution:
- Guide engineering teams in adopting cutting-edge technologies and driving technical innovation that differentiates Included Health in the market.
- Own a strong long-term technical vision and architecture for the business; oversee the scaling of engineering operations, ensuring excellence in delivery and operational performance.
- Balance technical advancement and a clear perspective on engineering architecture with measurable business outcomes, leading to sustainable growth and organizational efficiencies.
- Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead and manage the engineering and data science teams with humility, a hunger for impact, and high emotional intelligence.
- Attract, coach, and cultivate a top-tier and diverse team that works collaboratively and delivers results on ambitious company goals, with a high bar for talent development and growth.
- Inspire, nurture, and genuinely care for team members to foster a positive working environment and drive employee engagement.
- Own continued investment in our tech brand to drive our value proposition to strong technical hires.
- Set goals and systematically drive high performance, consistency, and resource-planning against a clear vision.
- Operational Excellence:
- Develop and refine engineering processes that drive both speed, quality, and scale, balancing the need for rapid iteration with stability and technical rigor.
- Metrics-driven leadership that leverages data-driven insights to guide decision-making and continuous improvements in team productivity and product delivery.
- Assess, establish, and uphold engineering practices, processes and standards across all teams to ensure exceptional quality, enhanced productivity, and efficient project delivery.
- Collaboration & Influence:
- Regularly interact with executives and stakeholders across the company to discuss opportunities, strategic vision, roadmap prioritization, and risks.
- Partner with cross-functional leaders to align engineering initiatives with business objectives, ensuring technology is a strategic enabler of profitable growth and competitive advantage.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience as a proven engineering leader managing teams greater than 200 people, including multiple departments and VPs as direct reports.
- Ideally has experience shipping high quality, consumer-facing products.
- Strong knowledge of AI/ML, DevOps, and data engineering to deliver transformative solutions and differentiated consumer experiences.
- Exceptional strategic mindset as well as analytical and problem-solving skills, with a track record of driving innovative initiatives that deliver tangible business results.
- Proven ability to transition from strategic vision to practical, executable plans; demonstrated success in delivering complex technical solutions under tight deadlines while maintaining a high caliber technical output.
- Able to successfully operate in ambiguity; effectively handles risk and deals comfortably with the uncertainty of change.
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills; capable of inspiring and influencing stakeholders at all levels.
- Drives vision and purpose, motivating others to action and building trust.
- Proven ability to attract and retain top talent; builds high performing and diverse teams that can operate in a high growth environment.
