Job Description

Position Overview
The Assistant Dean of Students shares responsibility for the school’s culture, facilitating student character development and ensuring a positive and structured environment that creates the conditions for accelerated learning.
Duties/Responsibilities
Commitment to School and Classroom Culture
- Work closely with the Dean of Students to establish a positive, structured, and achievement-oriented school culture
- Support school-wide discipline by executing the school-wide incentive and consequences plan.
- Collaborate with the Dean of Students in the refinement and execution of KCAP culture
- Coordinate and support recognition assemblies, parent workshops, community events, and other culture-building activities
- Support teachers in building relationships with students and parents; implement parental involvement plan in collaboration with School Leadership
- Supervise school entry, breakfast, lunch, transitions, and dismissal to ensure they are orderly and positive
- Support systems to ensure all students have excellent attendance and arrive at school on time
- Ensure that the physical environment (signage, messages, flow of student movement) of the school reinforces school culture and facilitates student achievement
- In coordination with the Operations Team and Grade Level Chairs, ensure effective field trips, school events, and extracurricular activities
- Coordinates, provides, and supervises behavioral activities for students.
- Provide critical guidance to Teachers to ensure that all staff comply with and meet students’ needs, especially those with special needs.
- Responsible for managing and reducing risk within the classroom with the support of the Lead teacher and seeking assistance when needed to resolve the matter
Family Engagement
- Be available for open houses, parent teacher conferences and other events involving parents
- Make him/herself available to students, parents and other staff members

- Willing to offer support and receive constructive feedback from colleagues in order to create a professional working atmosphere that is conducive to change and improvement
- Participate in school-wide and individual professional development, including pre-service training over the summer and weekly during the academic year (held during school hours)
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred. High School Diploma/GED required.
- Minimum of 3 years of successful experience in a classroom or equivalent profession dealing with youth (unless matriculating in higher education teaching program).
- Prior experience working in schools and urban communities is preferred but not required.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule outside of regular business hours.
- Aptitude to create and work within an inclusive environment that honors and supports a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives.
