What You'll Be Doing

Job Scope: Work with plant discipline engineers to develop plans and drawings and update the following items: Electrical single line diagrams, Motor schematics, Power panels layouts and schedules, Electrical Grounding plans, Lighting plans, Equipment layout and plot plans, Instrument loop sheets, Instrument junction boxes connection and fabricating details, Control panel connection and fabrication details, Distributive Control Systems termination diagrams, Wiring and Cable schedules, Bill of materials Instrument lists, Instrument spec sheets, P&IDs Update P&IDs with instrument details.

Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Responsible for the constructability, operability, and maintainability of the design within his/her discipline for the assigned project.

  • Provides comprehensive, efficient, and cost-effective technical input into design related to his/her discipline for assigned projects.

  • Responsible for the preparation of detailed design drawings within his/her discipline, in accordance with engineering design, required as project deliverables.

  • Provides continual guidance to drafters within his/her discipline for assigned projects.

  • Communicates and coordinates with Lead Designer for respective discipline to promote smooth, accurate, and scheduled completion of deliverables.

  • Reviews drawings within his/her discipline for assigned projects on a regular basis for completeness, overall quality, and adherence to standards.

  • Ensures all drawings within his/her discipline for assigned projects have been properly checked and backchecked.

  • Prepares and/or directs the preparation of final drawing plots and copies for transmittal relative to all project deliverables.

  • Possesses an awareness of project schedule and budget.

  • Assists with Project Audits when required.
     

Ideal Background

Education: Associate degree in Engineering Technology or Computer-Aided Drafting is required.  

Certification: Certification is not required at this level.

Experience: This position requires 10+ years of relevant industrial experience in electrical and instrumentation drafting and design  

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Familiarity with the current version of the National Electrical Code (NEC).

  • Ability to perform lighting level calculations.

  • Ability to size wire, conduit and overcurrent protection for both lighting and power applications.

  • Ability to perform voltage drop calculations.

  • Ability to route conduit and cable tray.

  • Ability to calculate tray and conduit fill.

  • Ability to determine motor control center loading.

  • Familiarity with specifications and installation details of construction bulk materials and equipment.

  • Ability to create accurate electrical installation documents from the information found on vendor equipment drawings.

  • Ability to determine load center unit substation loading.

  • Knowledge and understanding of work flow/information flow between disciplines.

  • Knowledge and understanding of schedule constraints and information requirements for the production of all electrical deliverables.

  • Ability to accurately estimate completion of assigned tasks.

  • Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards.
