Description
The Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) in the Institute for Social Research (ISR) at the University of Michigan invites applications for a full-time Research Professor position (open rank) with a research focus on social determinants of health, population health, health disparities, or a closely related social science focus.
The Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) of the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan maintains several long-standing data sharing research projects and programs and collaborates with other units in the Institute for Social Research and on campus. ICPSR’s research faculty conducts research and develops extramural-funded projects. We have the opportunity to work with a large and highly skilled professional research staff at ICPSR on our projects. We engage with the energetic faculty of ICPSR and our partners.
This position presents a unique opportunity to become part of the Business and Collection Development faculty at ICPSR. The successful candidate will have research and leadership responsibilities for existing extramural research projects at ICPSR, with the expectation of developing new projects. Examples of large extramural projects within ICPSR that are relevant to this leadership position include the Data Sharing and Demographic Research (funded by Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development), the National Archive of Computerized Data on Aging (funded by the National Institute on Aging), and the National Addiction and HIV Data Archive Program (funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse). The goal for this person is to expand data sharing infrastructure and conduct related research, thereby increasing the reuse and impact of data for addressing pressing health problems, such as disparities and inequities across sociodemographic groups. ICPSR, part of the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan, seeks to recruit and retain a diverse workforce. Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Sociology, Demography, Economics, Geography, Human Development & Family Studies, or a closely related field;
- Demonstrated interest in a range of social and structural explanations for health inequities is preferred;
- Experience with writing grants and contracts; strong leadership, communication, and administrative skills,
- Experience managing staff. Experience is desired in one or more of the following: data stewardship, data linkages, disclosure risk and confidentiality protection, data justice, and data feminism.
The ideal candidate will join ICPSR by the Fall semester of 2025. This is a 12 month appontment located in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
