Position Overview
Additive manufacturing (AM) is a transformational technology for fabricating complex metallic shapes directly from 3-D digital models, requiring minimal post-fabrication finishing steps. AM advantages over traditional manufacturing include cost and material savings, as well as the ability to fabricate parts with features that are unobtainable through other means. This opportunity focuses on understanding the relationships between processes and products in AM parts, with an explicit emphasis on microstructure analysis and computational modeling. We seek a highly motivated post-doctoral researcher with expertise in additive manufacturing and materials characterization. The primary focus of this position is to perform microstructural analysis using various characterization techniques, including computed tomography, to create process-driven, microstructurally informed models. These models will be derived from the combination of process-induced porosity characterization, structural integrity analysis, and the design, fabrication, and testing of high-throughput witness specimens. A secondary focus is on process monitoring and materials testing, supported by robust materials modeling expertise and capabilities.
Minimum Qualifications
• Ph.D. in Mechanical or Materials Science and Engineering or similar field.
• Experience in Materials Characterization via SEM, EBSD, XRD, TEM, Computed Tomography and/or other techniques.
• Experience in Additive Manufacturing Processes and Materials Testing.
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to perform experiments and data analysis.
Demonstrated strong experience in writing scientific publications and technical reports.
Ability to mentor undergraduate
