About the role
Title: Sr Cloud Engineer- DatabaseLocation: Rochester, NY; hybrid candidates with 10% travel required
The objective of the Role: Sr.Cloud Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing database solutions in cloud environments with a primary focus on AWS. This role combines deep technical expertise in cloud database platforms with the ability to deliver exceptional client solutions. The ideal candidate will serve as a technical specialist in database technologies while contributing to the overall cloud engineering practice and mentoring junior team members
Top candidates will have the following:1. Passion for working in high-growth technology environments with rapid change and innovation2. Strong technical leadership skills with the ability to guide architectural decisions around database solutions3. Deep understanding of relational and non-relational database systems in cloud environments4. Experience optimizing database performance, security, and cost efficiency in AWS5. Strong customer relationship management skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts6. Proactive approach to identifying and resolving potential database issues before they impact clients7. Detail-oriented mindset with excellent documentation practices8. Ability to balance reactive support requirements with proactive improvements9. Track record of staying current with evolving cloud database technologies and best practicesExperience managing databases in regulated environments with compliance requirements
Required Experience for the Role:1. Minimum of 5 years of experience in cloud engineering, with at least 3 years focused on database administration2. AWS Solutions Architect Associate certification or higher3. Demonstrated expertise with AWS database services including RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, and Redshift4. Experience with database migration, replication, backup strategies, and disaster recovery in cloud environments5. Strong SQL skills and experience with performance tuning and query optimization6. Experience with database security best practices, including encryption, access controls, and monitoring7. Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, PowerShell, Bash) for automation of database operations8. Experience working in a professional services or managed services delivery model9. Demonstrated ability to document complex technical solutions and create implementation plans10. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex database issues
Preferred Experience for the Role:1. AWS Database Specialty certification2. Azure certification (AZ-104, AZ-305, or equivalent)3. Experience with Azure database services including Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, and Synapse Analytics4. Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation) for database provisioning5. Experience with database DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines6. Knowledge of containerized database solutions and orchestration platforms7. Experience with database monitoring tools and performance analytics8. Background in data architecture and modeling9. Experience with compliance frameworks (e.g., SOC 2, HIPAA, PCI) as they relate to database systems
